BANGKOK: -- A farmer leader told caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra last night that if farmers were forced to lose their patience, what they would turn to would be unpredictable and uncontrollable.

The farmer leader who said to represent the Network for Farmers from 77 provinces, Mr Dhaicharn Mata, addressed farmers nationwide through the Blue Sky channel on the protest stage of the anti-government protesters that he is among a victim to the government’s rice-pledging scheme.

He said he sold all his crop to the scheme at about 500,000 baht and received voucher instead of cash despite his wife would warn that he should sell to millers and get cash instead.

However he said he sold to the government just because he would fetch higher price.

But his decision was wrong and until today he was not yet paid. He said he could not return home as every time he went home, his wife kept asking for money from the rice scheme.

He said almost all farmers are voters of the ruling Pheu Thai party but what it did to farmers was unpardonable.

Now they are sitting idly at home with even no rice to eat but wait and wait for money from the government.

He said in many areas the irrigation officials started to release water down from dams for farmers to begin second planting.

But what they could do were to just watch and could not start planting because they have not yet paid rents for farmland, have no money to buy items needed for planting, and fertilizers.

If they did not pay rents, landlords would let other farmers to rent instead, which means they could lose their right to farm again, he said.

He called on all farmers not to just sit and wait at homes but to march into the capital to make their complaints known to the whole country of how they have suffered from delayed payment.

He admitted that he also is a red-shirt farmer and never had hatred on the government and the prime minister.

But what they did to farmers were great and unacceptable and unpardonable.

He said farmers had no political motive but just to demand their money.

“If we get paid, we will return homes immediately,” he said.

He said farmers are people with extreme patience who would not say a word even was bullied.

However cheating their money which is their last money from hardship working in the field amid the heat of the sun, could cause their patience to burst.

He then told caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra that if farmers lose their patience, the consequence would be unpredictable and uncontrollable.

He said all farmers will march to the capital to see the prime minister at the office of the defense permanent secretary on Monday to demand rice payment.

If there is no answer, farmers will turn to overthrowing the government.

He urged all the military top brass and the national police chief to understand farmers and have sympathy on them, adding that if they are not in deep troubles, they will not rise up.

I bet the farmers come down on Monday and wreck havoc. Chalerm will not be able to contain them..... someone will do something stupid and set of violence. The army will have to intervene....

Likely one of the factors the Yingluck administration decided to apply massive police force today was because of the impending farmers march in Bangkok on Monday. There is no question this issue is a great embarrassment to the administration. And it also impedes their narrative that the unrest is all about the PDRC. This farmer's story and observations are heart-breaking. Perhaps the prospect of having Yingluck yet again refuse to meet the farmers on Monday, was something Pheu Thai simply couldn't let happen. What better way than to prevent such a march from ever materializing.

No problem. Just heard that Krung Thai has approved a loan, to be released in smaller amounts, as apposed to a single lump sum ,allegedly the clincher was the tax 'incentives' offered to the bank by the caretaker government. Make of that what you will - details are very sketchy. My guess is the loan amount gets to be written off as tax paid at the end of the financial year. But it is a guess.

Krung Thai staff are also reporting a very brisk trade in withdrawals (both large ans small) as well. Lets just hope we don't end up with a run on the bank.

The farmers need the money ASAP. Why is the government still sitting on the case not doing anything?

Suthep used the farmers to sue the government. It was his strategy to use them. If he could get money, he should have given all the money to the farmers instead of setting up the legal action against the government. The farmers need money other than anything else now.

I am sure that the farmers want to sue the government but receiving the money is their first priority.

It would be interesting to see how Suthep will take it from here. The farmers are angry and some of the Reds are already start having their second thoughts about the government. But Suthep or Democrat need to show their respect to the farmers and take care of them financially.

Thaksin took care of the farmers well and this is the reason why there are many farmers who love Thaksin.

Can Suthep do the same way Thaksin took care of the farmers? I hope he can but not sure.

Politicians are greedy liars. Thaksin and Suthep are very much the same to me.

It does not matter who would be the next prime minister, the corruption will continue.

PM: Farmers will be paid on Feb 17

BANGKOK, 14 February 2014 (NNT) –The Prime Minister and Defense Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has reaffirmed that all farmers registered with the government’s rice support program will be paid, starting on February 17th.

Amid the ongoing protests by farmers who have not received their rice compensations, the prime minister during a trip to Ayutthaya, reassured growers that the government would start making payments to the farmers from Feb 17 onwards.

The cabinet earlier gave approval to a 712 million baht budget which will be allocated to farmers waiting for their September 2013 payment.

During the trip to Ayutthaya with her son, the locals gave Miss Yingluck flowers to show their moral support as she moved towards Panun Cheong Temple to make merit on the special occasion of Makha Pucha Day.

Joining the Premier on her visit were her sister, Yaowapa Wongsawat and Commerce Minister Niwatthamrong Boonsongpaisan.

That will leave only few farmers in the cold, or do i read that wrong ?

Will that money be provided in stretchable notes, so they can stretch it to 130 Billion ?
