Looking For A Quick Mountain Break.

Featured Replies

I thought it was time I had another 3 day break. This time thought I would stay quite close(ish) and see a few mountain views.

I will be driving from Nakhon Ratchasima town. I have three places in mind.

Khao Yai... This is where the missus wants to go, but I don't like overly commercialised places within easy traveling distance of BKK commuters. The prices also reflect the fact that the high earners go there and charge 'captive audience' prices . I also would like to be pretty much assured of peace and quiet.

Phetchabhun... This one seems to be acceptable, looks a third of the price of Khao Yai hotels, and that probably means it is a lot less traveled than Khao Yai so much quieter which suits me, but wife and I have never been there, so could well be a big let down.

Wang Nam Kaew.... Wife also mentioned this place. I think not far from Khao Yai. We never been so this is also a shot in the dark.

Any of you guys been to any of those places can make a recommendation to help us in our quest?

Will probably jump in the car in the morning and just head off.... (impulse traveler). But like to have a basic background from those who have already been there and done it.

Thanks for any feedback.

Google khao khor, National park area Phetchabun. Dont pay the high price for hotels up there, stay down a little around phetchabun, khao khor is just 20 minutes drive.

Enjoy, lovely area to cruise around.

If Bankokians want to see "mountains" they go to Suan Phung. Only 3 hours drive from Bangkok. Route: BKK- Ratchabury- Suan Phung.107 resorts available, plenty of "mountains". Over the weekend, the whole area is a magnet for Bankokians. Discovered by Bangkokians, but not by Farangs yet !

Resort prices range from 500 to 8000 Bht per night. Up to you.

Cheers.
