BANGKOK, Feb 21 – Two social activist groups have called on Thailand's Election Commission (EC) to recommend dissolution of the Pheu Thai Party following the caretaker prime minister’s exaggerated claim of the success of the rice pledging scheme which could mislead voters.

The Green Politics group and Thai Constitution Protection Association separately lodged complaints with the EC, accusing Ms Yingluck Shinawatra of making an exaggerated statement during her appearance on all TV channels on Tuesday.

The caretaker premier claimed that the rice subsidy programme was successful and urged people to vote for her party in the election, said Green Politics group coordinator Chaturan Boonbenjarat.

He said Ms Yingluck’s speech could be a breach of the Constitution and the Election Law, adding that the caretaker prime minister misused the state media for her election campaign and did not act with neutrality.

It is the EC’s power to ask the Constitution Court to dissolve the Pheu Thai Party of which Ms Yingluck is the first candidate in the party list balloting, he said.

Srisuwan Chanya, secretary general of the Thai Constitution Protection Association, represented the group in submitting the petition against Ms Yingluck and the Pheu Thai Party to the EC. (MCOT online news)

She probably made speech while the Skype connection was down .

Pu's speeches could be a lot better if she employed Borislav Ivanov as her shoe designer ....

Then again, with the unreliability of EGAT and a slight electric surge, she might get mated again and again.

So the list is growing of agencies, people and independent organizations that are against the PTP. Green Politics group and the Thai Constitution Protection Association can be added to the following list.

World bank, Moody's, UNHCR, Human Rights Watch, the Environmentalists, the corn farmer, rubber farmers, rice farmers, medical association, rural teachers, academics, Supa, global economists, IMF, private banks, GSB, the EC, AoT, the courts, military, bangkok middle class, business owner, state enterprise staff, Buddhist monks, civil servants, labor unions and "The Nation" newspaper.

All demonized simply because they don't agree with the PTP.

How about 'daimonized' ? (psychologically speaking) ;)

We see once again that the Shin's simply say what they want with no regard or thought to consequences because they believe they can do anything they want to do.

The "election" is still ongoing, it's not finished yet, and appearing on National TV and making the statements she did is election campaigning (yet again) and totally improper in this context.

I remember they kicked out Samak cuz he appeared in a cooking program so mentioning the election in election time will probably enough to get her resigned. Great this floppy democracy .... mai pen rai, mai pen rai ...

Activist groups call for dissolution of Pheu Thai party

BANGKOK: -- Two people’s activist groups today called on the Election Commission (EC) to recommend dissolution of the Pheu Thai party, citing the breaching of the Election Law over exaggeration of the success of the rice pledging scheme by the caretaker prime minister.

They said the speech given by the caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra on TV Pool was exaggeration of the success of the scheme and that it could mislead voters.

The Green Politics group and Thai Constitution Protection Association separately lodged complaints with the EC, accusing Ms Yingluck Shinawatra of making an exaggerated statement during her appearance on all TV channels on Tuesday.

And this speech at this time was one more misjudgment by the whole of Team Thaksin.

Pls don't insult formula 1...

Team Thaksin is nowhere near so professional, or it would have changed tyres a lot more quickly and been out of the pits it has created a lot faster. ;)

Might as well join your 2 predecessors who were dissolved for Election Fraud. Anything the Shinawatras do is mired in corruption. Roll on party number 4. I wonder what it'll be called.

Suggestions, please.

LOL, I think PTP would be happy to have the party dissolved. This will solve the problem of the resurrected executive members of TRT and PPP who were banned.

Thank you for condensing that into a list of reasons why they should take a hint.

Who are for these idiots?

The police and the red shirts...... lol

By dissolving a political party, will that remove the PM and her ministers from office with immediate effect? one thing for sure is they will reform under a new name.

They should be petitioning the courts naming the Shinawatra clan and cronies as "Unfit and Proper persons" to hold public office.

There will come a time, in the near future, when government employees and even the police realize, that this government is so corrupt it can not be saved. With the amount of Panzi Sachems, being carried out at the cost of the poor people that supported them, they will go. The government is like the dog that bites the hand that feeds them

Yingluck's speech on television was really stupid from a number of standpoints, and did nothing but harden criticism of the administration. But by lobbying for election votes, specifically citing the rice scheme - was a huge unforced error - for it opens her party up for dissolution on election law infractions. Back to facebook.

Yingluck pretty much dissolved herself and the PTP singlehandedly by opening her yapper.

When will she learn that its " Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt."

National Election was 2nd February, Yingluk won, there aren't enough seats left to change the winner. So comments made 18th Feb could have no bearing on the election result at all!

Then of course Suthep and Abhisit have been ranting endlessly about the rice scheme, so if you ban Pheu Thai, you then have to also ban the democrats for the exact same reason.

What a sad joke this coup has become.

C'mon, don't be so one sided. The UDD and some (the ones she hasn't alienated with the amnesty fiasco) red shirts adore her.

Now they're not even letting her exaggerate anymore...what an outrage...how dare they try to take away her only remaining political tool

Wrong on several accounts.

Election is still incomplete and therefore ongoing.

There has been no official result, How on earth can there be?

The OP talks about using state TV improperly. Not the rice scheme so your comments about Abhisit and Suthep are misplaced.

And I'm sure you are aware of all if the above and are therefore typing lies for your own misguided agenda

Sent from my Nexus 7 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

She certainly got enough seats on 2nd February for Pheu Thai that even if every remaining seat was given to the opponent it would not stop Pheu Thai being the next government.

So how can her speech after those votes were cast, materially change the ballot papers already cast and counted by the EC? It's can't of course, and thus if it can't change those votes, and can't material change the result.

Yingluk is our new PM, the EC just hasn't declared it yet.

Election doesn't need to be complete to be over, last election had polls after the result was declared. It's normal that the EC does a cleanup of the problem polling stations after the election.

A speech after the votes were taken shouldn't affect the EC's certification, as they are claim to be independent and professional.

State TV carried her speech as it carried Suthep rants and Abhisits whines. Bluesky carries their lies 24/7. Reporting is not misusing! The idea that she would make a speech and the government news channel would not carry it, is laughable.

Your side lost, they should quit their lawyer tricks, and tell their friends in their offices to do their jobs and stop making Thailand look like some sort of third-world joke.
