Hi, Work are sending me to live in BKK and will be arranging a work visa,

They tell me it will take 6 weeks to arrange.

What does this actually provide ? (Can I get bank loans etc)

Residency ?

How long am I able to remain in Thailand ?

Does it allow multiple entries if I travel outside of Thailand ?

Do I need to reapply every year or is the life of the visa dependent on my empolyment status in Thailand ?

Are there any restrictions ?

Best you go back to the "work" and ensure an appropriate visa is being applied for.

A work permit permits alongside an appropriate visa a person to work legally.

There is no workvisa, you will get a non-immigrant B visa and need to apply for a work permit after arriving in Thailand.

With your non-B visa you will get a stay of 90 days and in that time you must arrange for the work permit and aftr you have that can get an extension of 1 year to stay in Thailand and get that extension every year.

To travel outside of Thailand you would need a re-entry permit, which is no problem to get.

Getting a loan will be difficult. Getting residency also, unless you plan to stay for about 10 years.

There is no work visa. What you get is a non immigrant B visa and then a work permit. And then you do a one year extension of stay.

You can get a re-entry permit that will allow you to travel after getting the extension.

You should get a non immigrant B visa before leaving with paperwork from company. If not you should at least get a tourist visa so that you can apply for the work permit an then more likely have to leave the country to get a visa so that your work permit can be issued.

You can qualify for permanent residency after 3 years of working and paying taxes.

The extension of stay is tied to your job. I you lose you job your extension ends and you have to leave the country.

the Ministry of Labour is now asking for academic qualifications as well so give them copies of these as well to get your LOA

I believe you can get a credit card with the WP but a loan would need you to provide assets as collateral

Depending on the job, proof of academic qualification have always been a requirement, if it was requested for is another thing.

In 20 years I only know 2 people that received credit cards without a deposit. Not saying it's impossible but if you would be hard pressed to find a company that will offer a credit card.

As for a loan that will be difficult too. A loan for the purchase of a house it out. Just to let you know a foreigner is unable to own land, so buying a house is pretty much out, however there are work arounds. Are the work arounds 100% legal? not really, they operate in a gray area. You are able to purchase a condo, but there are some conditions such as the funds need to be transferred from overseas. Do some searching here on TV there is allot of info about living here in Thailand. Good luck!

My Bank issued me a Credit Card, also with a reasonable credit limit, based on WP, Tax and Salary History but without any associated security deposit.

Couple of foreign friends of mine have mortgages on properties based on their income, etc (of course with their wives' names on the Chanote).

If you are in stable long term employment these things are difficult to obtain but possible
