Residence Certificate Question if received from Immigration Office In Bangkok

Featured Replies

I plan to purchase a used car from a friend next week. They are Thai and told me I will only need my rental contract and passport copies when we go to transfer ownership at the Government Office. I have read here that an actual Certificate of Residence is needed to do this so I question their statement. I really do not want to go to the US embassy and pay the $50 dollars again like I did when I got my drivers license. If I go to one of the temporary Immigration offices, since Division 1 office is closed due to protesters, will I receive the certificate of residence the same day? I was thinking I had read where it takes quite a while to get. The tentative date to transfer ownership of the vehicle is next Friday February 28th. If anyone has done the process recently and can give me some information I would greatly appreciate it. I live in Bangkok and although I am not sure where exactly the vehicle transfer office is, the vehicle owner told me it is somewhere near Chatuchak Weekend Market. I did search the Motor Forum but didn't come up with much information.

I have tried to get a letter from Bangkok immigration before with no success, i had to go to my embassy and cough up the 2000 baht...

Thanks Murf, I went ahead and made an appointment at the embassy for Thursday morning at 9:15am. I guess I will cough also; just hate paying that much for so little. "Raise your right hand" "are you telling the truth?" (ME) "Yes" (THEM) "Ok, $50 US dollars please" wai.gif

Motor Vehicles is on the opposite side of the road as JJ market. And yes you need a Certificate of Residence to transfer ownership. I had no problem getting one from immigrations but it wasn't in Bangkok and each immigration office seems to have their own rules.

Yeah, i know that Pattaya immigration gives them out no problems for a small fee... Strange.
