February 25, 201412 yr With what has happened in Ukraine, protests and violence culminating in the ousting of the president, does anyone think it will inspire the protesters here to more violence and really digging in?
February 25, 201412 yr There are countries outside of Thailand? Say it isn't so! Most will not have heard of the Ukraine, let alone be following the political divide which is encompassing that country ATM.
February 25, 201412 yr Dont think so, most of ''Thai People'' would not of heard of ''Ukraine''.... and doubt if they have even followed whats been going on...
February 25, 201412 yr They are so totally different situations. In Ukraine you have a proxy battle between Russia and Europe/USA, kind of the endgame of the cold war. The revolters there are symbolically fighting an external power, Russia. There's nothing like that in Thailand even though both China and the USA have strong interests here.

Indeed they are different situations, but the bottom line garnered from a cursory look at headlines is "Protesters formed barricades, had running battles with the police, and eventually won and got the country's leader to run away". As someone posted above, it has apeared on Thai news.
February 25, 201412 yr Apparantly 3 ukranian oligarchs withdrew support to the former president. Money related apart from the division in the country between european or russian favoratism. Geographically oriented. They are crooks there 2. Common people pay the price. Come on Klitshko !
February 25, 201412 yr The Ukraine protests were on Thai news channels. Yep ... have seen it ... but I don't think the 60 sec clip gives any background to the conflict or the reasons for the conflict. I've traveled a bit of the Ukraine ... quite a contrast between the predominantly Russian speaking to the east of the country then those to the west or south who look to the Euro aligned countries
February 25, 201412 yr Thais have no idea what has been going on I Ukraine, Egypt or any other part of the world that has had revolution or civil.unrest in the last few years. They think the falangs have been copying them
February 26, 201412 yr Ask some Thais about North Korea. They haven't got a clue what goes on there or where it is on a map.
February 26, 201412 yr Well, there's a strong neo-Nazi element among the Ukraine protesters. So the fascist protesters in Thailand have THAT in common with them... http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/timstanley/100260665/ukraine-the-opposition-arent-all-angels-some-are-neo-nazis/

On the other hand, you believe, that suppressing the people by any means, defying the courts, use censorship on the media, is called Democracy. I think, you have a serious problem. February 26, 201412 yr There are certainly fascist tendencies in Thailand's version of "democracy" just as there are in many of our home countries. All of the things you mention are certainly done by both sides of the current conflict here when it suits them. http://www.rense.com/general37/char.htm Edited February 26, 201412 yr by wym
