Holiday time!

so my 4 year old is running inside the house and want to do a bit more than just visiting the local playground, time to spend a few days in the nature around CHIANG MAI.

anyone who knows a simple bungalow near or in a forest/national park where some occasional hiking or swimming can be done ?

thanks

You can camp at lake huay tung tao and do swimming and hiking.

Also mae gnat dam north of mae rim, I think some lodges and houseboats and can go kayaking.

For starters.

Nong Hoi Royal Project aka Mon Cham

Ob Khan National Park down CAnal Rd about 15/20 km.

chiang dao

Doi Suthep National Park - beautiful nearby pine forest with nice bungalows.

Mon Jam is a great place but it does have one serious drawback for a 4 year old: the cabins and tents are located on a very steep slope - almost approaching the steepness of a cliff. That said it has a great restaurant and it's a beautiful place at the top of a mountain. Don't trust google maps for Mon Jam. Look up the Nong Hoi Royal Development Center. That is actually located about half a kilometer before you get to Mon Jam but it's on the same road. Great hiking, no swimming.

Op Khan has a beautiful clear mountain stream running through it which is great for swimming especially now that dry season is here and the stream runs slowly. . Op Khanhas very few visitors. There's only a small restaurant there and it isn't always open during the hours it says it is. Also, no mobile reception. If you live on the south side of Chiang Mai it's about a half hour drive. Great swimming and the hiking is great but maybe a little rugged and risky for a 4 year old if you follow the hiking trail.

here are the GPS coordinates for Mon Jam 18.9357400, 98.8228600
