March 11, 201412 yr You obviously haven't done your research right. Both Phangan and Tao are more expensive than Samui, Tao could possibly be the most expensive island in Thailand. Tao is certainly not a place I'd recommend an expat family with small children to permanently live. So, if you're looking for a place which is not "overpriced" in which case, I presume you have some kind of budgetary restrictions, then I don't think both islands would suit you. Maybe not even Samui. Cost of living (especially food) in Samui is about the same or even higher than in Bangkok.
