Army may sue 'red shirt' who called for uprising

THE NATION

BANGKOK: -- THE ARMY is considering taking legal action against a man claiming to be red-shirt Wuthipong "Ko Tee" Kotchatham for calling for an uprising against the military over the radio.

A YouTube video features "Wuthipong" in a phone interview telling a radio host that he has stored arms and supplies to fight the Army in a battle of the "giant elephant and red ants".

He also urged fellow red shirts to donate material, saying moral support was no longer enough.

The armed struggle against the military would kick off as soon as the National Anti-Corruption Commission indicts caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, also the defence minister, for alleged dereliction of duty in allowing the corruption plagued rice-pledging scheme to continue, he said.

"Not only my faction, the Independent Red, the Siam Red are ready. The day they suspend the PM from duty, that day will be the 'Gunfire Breaking Out Day' for Bangkok.

"We are eyeing banks such as Bangkok Bank, TMB Bank, Siam Commercial Bank to borrow money and we will borrow supplies from convenience stores and borrow petrol from gas stations. Once peace returns, we will pay back what we had borrowed,'' the man said.

Colonel Winthai Suvaree, deputy Army spokesman, said yesterday that the military's legal department would check the video for any offence.

Suriyasai Katasila, coordinator of the Green Politics group, said the Pheu Thai Party and red-shirt movement appeared to be stepping up activities that he said have intimidated independent organisations and inflamed public opinion to bring them down.

It showed that the government could not prove its innocence and that Yingluck could not deny her involvement, as she had never stopped her supporters from committing wrongdoing, he said.

The NACC would not only seek to prosecute Yingluck but also her whole Cabinet, as the rice-pledging scheme was a government policy, he said.

Inciting hatred , violence , is a law that should be introduced with reforms ,if Thailand doesn't have these already , this will deter the loud mouths to keep their mouths shut, if Thailand has these laws already, the police should do their job and arrests should follow.bah.gif

I'm confidant that the fair-minded pacifist and new chairman of the red shirts, Jatuporn, will openly condemn the actions and words of red shirt leader Ko Tee and will rapidly remove him from the red shirt movement as well as urgently cooperate with the authorities to quickly apprehend this red shirt that is going against what Jatuporn just announced yesterday.

Former MP Jatuporn Prompan, facing terrorism charges in an ongoing trial related to the 2010 uprising, told AFP that any new Red Shirt tactics would be "peaceful"

Sued, surly the charge should be treason, but this been Thailand,

which may now be in the same league now as the US for litigious

actions, the Army suing, the Navy in Phuket suing, Monty Pythonland

might be a better name for this country, just when you think it could

not get any crazier it does.

Sounds like the ravings of a total lunatic but then again it could be a deliberate ploy (to what end I have no idea other than the one of pushing the army further towards coup).

Surely for 'Ravings of a total lunatic' you wouldn't need to go any further and look at some of the political rants and clap trap posted here within the various news topics here at TVF ?

And it's always the same from the same and no doubt for the same.

Why are the prosecutors not active here. He called publicly to civil war.
“fight the Army“ ; “donate material” ; “borrow petrol from gas stations” ; “Gunfire Breaking Out Day' for Bangkok” ; etc.
This turns out not even the question of evidence. Why he is not sacked immediately?

The Bangkok Post has more extensive quotes where he all but admits of carrying out attacks with M-79 grenades and claims other Red Shirt groups are willing/ready for more of the same.

To sue is a civil action, why are criminal charges not being brought against these people and why are the army even involved, another example of what is very badly wrong in this country

The Army doesn't really have a choice since it is clear that the RTP have simply given up doing (or even pretending to do) their job...!

Maybe do this first, before engaging the mouth?

I assume there is some allowance for "free-speech" here? Maybe not, if you are in the wrong "camp"?

PDRC protest speakers have said some pretty ghastly things, interesting that the Army's legal scholars haven't "checked" them?

I think the word they are looking for is 'steal'.

No no, you are not thinking like an extremists. An extremist is someone who absolutely belives in the righteousness of their cause, they are enlightened, they are noble and they are the only thing between all what's good and the evil enemy, and because you can't fight evil by being nice lying, stealing, murdering, etc, etc... is all justified because they are doing it for a good cause and they wouldn't have to perform those nasty deeds if it wasn't for those evil people they are fighting against.

If you ask yourself how can, for example the people responsible for the murder of those children in Trat and in front of Big C in Bangkok, sleep at night, they sleep splendidly, knowing that they are fighting the good fight.

Why do they need to borrow money if they are also borrowing the supplies?

For those unfamiliar with UDD radio - which has been going on for years in a plethora of broadcasts over the years in the North - the remarks contained in this article - all quoted from video tape - will shock. And yet, that is the kind of content and calls for insurrection that are common on red shirt radio. But for those who know that these networks exist already, it is still shocking, and even numbing.

" We are eyeing banks such as Bangkok Bank, TMB Bank, Siam Commercial Bank to borrow money and we will borrow supplies from convenience stores and borrow petrol from gas stations. "

In the world of the UDD this is called " borrowing " . And yet to everyone else, particularly those who remember the looting and burning of departments stores in Ratchaprapon in 2010 - it means theft. It means holding up banks and looting their money. It means looting department stores ( presumably under the assumption that designer clothes will help the war against the elite ). It means stealing petrol - another thing that sends a chill to anyone remembering Ratchaprason and the call for massive amounts of gasoline. It means terror.

For the army not to prosecute such a man would make such a horrific occurrence more of a reality. Note what Ko Tee says is the trigger - the NACC. If they remove Yingluck - as is their constitutional duty if she is found guilty - they will initiate " Gunfire Breaking Out Day ". For those that think such a thing could not happen, need only cast their minds back to Ratchaproson. All those leaders are still out in force today. One just became the leader of the UDD, and one became a cabinet minister. From the UDD perspective, there is no deterrent from the horrific outcome that they seek. The army has to prosecute, for the sake of the well-being of all Thai people.

The Army are only feeling it is their job because the "Attorney general" or whatever the thai version is called, and the Police as well, have apparently decided to be derelict in their duties in emulation of their (ex) prime minister.

This should be the coronar's job.

I don't know, if this institution is existing in Thailand.

So anyway, either they do not exist or they do not do their job

Someone has to step up and do what is necessary.

If nobody else does - I am happy the army does.

Don't worry, Khun Tarit of the DSI will be along any minute to announce he's frozen this nutters bank accounts and demand a warrant for his arrest.

CMPO and DSI - champions of justice, law and order. No double standards here. whistling.gif

The old Attorney-General left in a blaze of glory - he refused to prosecute Thaksin for inciting terrorism in 2010, despite the video evidence on the grounds "he was out of the country at the time".

His successor promised to re-visit this decision. Not heard another whisper from him, on anything.

Thailand is really a strange country. Why would the army sue anyone or group for political reasons? The sole purpose of existance for the Army is to serve as the national guards for the country by protecting it from military aggressions - not lawsuits or legal disputes, such as the case in this article.

Only in Thailand.

Can you imagine if the Thai army were actually involved in a war. It would be like that scene when Butch Cassidy is challenged to a knife fight by Harvey Logan... " Wait a minute...let's get the rules straight first."

The Thai army would show up with one general and fifty lawyers. biggrin.png
