Free standing air con units

I reccently sold my house and now rent. Don't really want to put in a fixed unit. Do any of you have the free standing units, if so, are they effective and are they more costly to run?

We have both the free standing is cheaper to run but not quite as effective. If It was in a smaller space it would be ideal.

This is of course an arbitrary situation as we all have different comfort zones. I have a wide range so it doesn't have to be that cool.

In my opinion--they are not very efficient.

If you have a very small space they are just OK. Make sure you vent them to the outside or else you are just pumping hot air back into the room. Used one for a short time but was not too efficient.
