PeaceBlondie
Yesterday, we decided to head back to Chiang Mai on 30 June, and most of all, I'll miss the beach. In retrospect, I'll categorize this year as recovery from my motorcycle wreck last July, a great vacation. I won't miss the jellyfish (got a nasty sting a couple of days ago), and I'm looking forward to a job market where a part-time TEFLer can find work. It's been nice to meet the locals here and host folks from Bangkok. Also, the health care available here is inadequate, the trips to BKK are a nuisance, and I can probably get nearly equivalent health care in Chiang Mai (I'm still plagued by a persistent wound infection and needing a shoulder replacement). But I surely will miss the beach. Boyfriend, who's a native of ChiangMai, kept saying, "You can get anything you want in Chiang Mai." Now, where's Alice's restaurant, and Alice and her brother? Thaidit
I've never been to Hua Hin. WHat did you like most about it and how do you compare HH's beaches to other TH beaches?

Now, where's Alice's restaurant, and Alice and her brother? funny as the Hua Hin you talk about is not recognisable to me. On an almost weekly basis some thing new opens that makes trips to Bangkok unnecessay, unless you want to party. The health care at the Prechurat Hospital, 3/4's of an hour's drive is second to none. Needless to say I love Hua Hin !
JimmyGreaves
I like HH but 3/4 of an hours drive to the hospital is bloody annoying and in an emergency could be the difference between .... btw the Petcherat is good.
PeaceBlondie
I've enjoyed it here. Oh, and the house got broken into and burgled seven times since New Year's, probably by a staff member. 45 minutes to competent medical care is 30 minutes too long, thank you anyway. Beautiful place, great beach, God bless the jellyfish. And I'll retract the statement that you can't get everything in Hua Hin.
dukkha
After 18 months in Hua Hin I decided to do the unspeakable and relocate to Bangers, the sole reason being medical facilities, sadly, although the Hua Hin I visited 7 years ago sure aint the HH of today, miss the beach but more than that, dont miss the stress of a medical emergency and funnily enough have found life to be more stimulating in the capital. jdinasia
I haven't lived in hua hin .... in 2 years ... and things have changed radically since I left ... but I was down there recently ... still not enough to keep me there! But am done with BKK now too! Off to Phuket for scuba diving and Biz opportunities
taxexile
construction of a big new (supposedly first class up to international standards etc.etc.) hospital is well underway now , should be open within a year.
dukkha
Sure TE, heard this before but could not wait any longer with a tricky ticker..I think they need a first rate cardio facility especially as HRH resides in HH for most of the year...a three hour drive for an emergency just might be too late, now 10 minutes from Saint Louis with a competent cardio at 300 baht a throw...not dissatisfied at all...gave BKK Heart Hospital the flick, more like a five star hotel with commensurate costs...dont need the white gloves, just someone who can attend to my issues immediately...best of luck to all of those who are waiting on HH facility, but it wont change my mind regarding moving back, but I do miss the sea and the beach walks, now the condo pool suffices each day... He moved here several years ago primarily due to the poor air quality in Bangkok; which happens to be the same reason I am here. That said, there is no place in Thailand that is perfect for everyone and there is nothing wrong with anyone's decision to move here or there. HH is fairly quiet and for people who require an exciting nightlife, there are better choices. As for shopping, a previous poster put it well when he said there is something new opening every week which reduces yet again the need to go to Bangkok. HH's most glaring deficiency is medical care and the new hospital under construction will remove that deficiency. At that point I am quite content to make regular forays to Bangkok but base myself in HH for until the Man Upstairs decides that I have had my human experience and must move on.
