Pattaya hires Army to build football stadium no contractor would touch

PATTAYA:--Having spent funds earmarked for a new football stadium on the Beach Road beautification project, Pattaya Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome finally found someone to build the 20,000-seat stadium on its shoestring budget: The Royal Thai Army.

Itthiphol and 1sr Army Area Commander Lt. Gen. Thirachai Nakvnich signed an agreement March 13 to have the military fund the second-phase of the moribund 774 million baht project near the Eastern National Indoor Stadium on Soi Chaiyapruek 2.

The army will provide labor, equipment, and construction materials with Pattaya pledging to pay the military 536.5 million baht for construction. The army will begin construction within a month and finish the project within three years and four months. Any delay will need to be approved by the city.

nice, i can imagine the traffic at the by-pass / rail road crossing near there.

A football stadium on beach road, where there is on an average weekday already traffic congestion and a shortage of parking space.

Another example of Thai style forward planning.

No football stadium on beach road, it will be adjacent to the sports stadium on Chaiyapruek 2, tells you that in the article.

Yeah...it's going to be in the eastern (Darkside) of Sukhumvit.

Myabe you can point out where in the OP the location of the stadium is specified.

Maybe an idiot sees more then is posted.

Ooops my wrong, but as an excuse I want to point out that in another thread on the Pattaya forum, I made it clear that I'm in the market for a new set of spectacles.

Didn't the army construct the by-pass road (each side of the railway line)?

A fine example of workmanship.

The army did one side, the government the other side. I recall army be far ahead in schedule with the government, now i don't remember which side each one did, but have you noticed the difference in road surface quality between the two sides ?

Should do wonders for traffic in the area when there's a match or other event at the stadium. Especially the entrance/exit in Sukhumvit.

don't you confuse wonders with disasters ?

I did not know that.

But I would say that the northbound road is slightly crappier than the southbound.

"Slightly" is a polite description of the issue.

I thought "crappier" was the polite description.

The army will probably do a better job than most of the local contractors.

I appreciate that is not setting the bar too hight.

If Thailand bribe the right people this could be a World Cup venue in 2026.whistling.gif

Who needs another bloody football stadium? Build a Formula 1 circuit, I say, and to hell with Newin.
