Chiang Mai - Blue, Yellow, White, etc... buses

Featured Replies

Hello fellow TV members!

Was anybody of you clever enough to figure out where the above colour-coded bus routes are going? I still try to avoid being ripped off by the red-bus taxi Mafia. So any help would be appreciated. Maybe there exists a transportation map, similar to the underground system in London, UK??? w00t.gif Yes, yes I know. Call me a dreamer! LOL...

Thanks for information sharing...

There was a post asking this only three days ago.

"Different color songtaew stop and route guide?"

Post #5 gives an excellent link through "Try 'here'".

There are 6 colours of Songthaew transport in Chiang Mai: red, yellow, white, green, orange and blue.

1. The red one goes around inside the city for 20 baht and for this price the driver can pick up other passengers during the trip. If you want to go outside city on a red ongthaew, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Songthaew), then the price depends on how far you want to go or agreed price between passenger and driver. There are almost 3,000 red car transports in the city of Chiang Mai.

2. The yellow songthaew goes to another district :

1) Chiang Mai - Mae Rim
2) Chiang Mai - Doi Saket
3) Chiang Mai - San Pa Tong - Chom Thong
There are 3 terminals for yellow songthaew in the city : Warorot market (Kad Luang), Pratu Chiang Mai market (Chiang Mai gate market) and Chang Phuak bus station. About 200 yellow songthaews in Chiang Mai, every 5-15 minutes and price is 15-40 baht depending on distance; you can also flag down a bus on the way.

3. The white songthaews go to Mae Tang, every 7 minute from 05:00-20:30 and Chiang Mai - San Kampaeng, the price and the waiting time are same with yellow songtaews.

4. The green songthaews go to Mae Joe, there are 2 routes for the green songthaews: new line- passed super highway and old line-passed San Sai.

5. The orange songthaews go to Fang, service time 06:15-18:00 (every 30 minutes) they pass Chiang Dao, Chai Prakan and foot hill of Doi Ang Kang until Fang (in Chiang Rai province).

6. The blue songthaews go to Lamphun, via Sarapi.

That is actually a really interesting little activity there for someone with a lot of time on his hands and in need of a hobby... Confirm the exact routes and draw a map in the style of the London Underground. (So not to scale, but very legible.)
