Been looking for a small portable immersion heater suitable to heat water for just one cup of coffee etc.

Can't seem to find any.

Anybody noticed this item in any Bangkok shops?

I've seen them in local markets in Pattaya and Phuket for about 80 Baht so would SUSPECT that a local market in BKK would also have them - as opposed to shops I mean. Hope it helps

Verasu used to have what you want but have not seen it on display or I haven't been looking for it.

Actually this morning I found several models, nicely designed and manufactured on a stall in Ramkamhaeng Road, close to where hundreds of European exchange students live. All 150Baht, bought two.
