Kittiratt says budget delay manageable

BANGKOK, April 9 – Caretaker Deputy Prime Minister/Finance Minister Kittiratt Na-Ranong expressed optimism that a delay in approving the 2015 budget will be manageable.

He compared it to the situation in 2013 when massive floods delayed disbursement of the 2014 budget to March 2014, instead of the originally scheduled October 2013.

His major concern is the appointment of new members for the Board of Investment (BoI) which cannot be made by a caretaker government, a problem which he said must be resolved.

The Election Commission and the Council of State agreed that new BoI members could be appointed to enable uninterrupted investment in the private sector.

Mr Kittiratt said the political impasse has impacted the economy in several aspects, thus shrinking the state’s tax revenue and tourism.

Signs of economic volatility has become clearer, he said, adding that massive projects must be initiated by the public sector, especially investment in transport infrastructure.

Foreign investors must be given specifics of the government’s plan for a budget deficit to benefit long-term investment, he said. (MCOT online news)

Difficult to do, as this government doesn't actually make plans that are viable.....

The problem is how long this will drag on , the budget for appropriations will be due and a caretaker government has no input in this ,as a caretaker government cannot bring down a budget, wages and supply allocation for government departments dries up , along with the rice farmers , there will be more discontent in LOS bah.gif

It's surprising Nittiratt's statements are even taken seriously at this point. The only evidence that supports his claim that he is a functioning cabinet minister with a sound budget steering a bright fiscal future -

As long as its done within the budget and transparent its all OK, however with the PTP and Taksin its only about making it not transparent and steal as much as they can.

Most nonpersonal problems in this world are not solved by those that created them, its like attempting to correct the assignment that you screwed up, your blinded by self delusion, self confidence, and the individual you copied off of/listened to, to start with

I imagine it would go something like this; What we planned was to spend every baht of the 2.2 trillion baht loan, that we arranged without oversight, to pay off the all the half witted schemes that we perpetrated on the Thai people. If by chance there was anything left, we might introduce some more half witted schemes designed to blind the voters with smoke and mirrors. Those schemes would be subject to the usual 60% corruption costs which would allow us to fill our own pockets as well as the dear leaders.

Failing to have a government to pass a budget means the same budget as this year is carried forward, but only 50% of the money can be spent.

But they need to get the BOI thing sorted out very quickly
