186 checkpoints erected in Greater Bangkok to deter M79 attacks

BANGKOK, 10 April 2014 (NNT) – 186 extra checkpoints have been erected in Greater Bangkok by the police, in an effort to deter grenade attacks that have increased in frequency recently.

According to Royal Thai Police Deputy Commissioner Woraphong Chiewpricha, soldiers will work with the police at the checkpoints. With investigation into several of the recent grenade attacks and shootings in Greater Bangkok still ongoing, the aim is to protect state offices and other risk areas from further attacks.

Four M 406 HE 40-millimeter grenades fired from an M 79 grenade launcher landed on the roof of a nails and wires factory in Yanawa on Tuesday night and exploded, shattering parts of the roof.

An incident report was filed with officials on Wednesday afternoon. Investigators and explosives ordnance disposal specialists at the site suspected that the grenades were intended for a Bangkok Bank training center located adjacent to the factory. Officials also believed the incident was a demoralizing attempt, as the perpetrators struck at night when the center was not occupied.

A number of workers were working at the factory when the grenades struck; fortunately, no one was hurt.

Unfortunately in a country with democracy you don't need 186 check points to stop M79 attacks, still a little further to go Thailand , at this rate you should just start to learn all about democracy in about 2078 , I'll be dead well and truly by then so in anticipation congratulations.
