Bringing Cat to US - Any BKK Vet Recommendations?

Featured Replies

Can anyone recommend a vet in Bangkok who is familiar with the requirements for pets going to America? I'll be bringing my cat with me in July and even though there aren't a ton of requirements for cats, I'd prefer to use a vet who is familiar with the process. I live in BKK. The vet I normally use doesn't know anything about what needs to be done. Has anyone ever done this and can recommend a vet? Thanks.

The only thing that needs to be done (assuming you are not going to Hawaii) is to get a health certificate and export permit from the Government Animal Quarantine Station which is at Suvanabhumi airport in the cargo terminal area. This is an airline requirement, not a US one, but won't get o nthe plane without it. Cannot be done more than 5 days before you leave and a certificate from a private vet is of no use, has to be from them. When you go, need to show vaccination records showing rabies vaccine in past year.

That's it. But check with your airlines re their requirements in terms of size of the case etc. And have copies of the vaccine record with you just in case US customs aske=s for it but they usually will; not (plus you will have the Thai Govt Vet Health Certificate, which will indicate that the cat is healthy and the date of the last rabies vaccine).

I'm bringing a cat to the US also in July, with me in the cabin, Korean Air.
