o-a visa

Featured Replies

hi,

absolutely no work with oa visa?

thanks

The norm is that no work permit is issued on an O-A visa or an extension of stay based on retirement. You would have to change your status to working or get a non-B visa in order to get a work permit.

Some do under the radar online work that doesn't involved anything in Thailand, including the banking part of it. Not legal but nobody cares unless to blackmail you! (Or if the activity itself is illegal like porn, etc.)

thanks!

I know many people who work offshore and are here during their time off, using an O-A visa. So, yes technically they're not retired, they're still working, just not in Thailand.

The problem is not working abroad while on a O-A visa. The problem is getting a work permit to work in Thailand while on an O-A visa or extension based on retirement. But that can be fixed with getting the correct visa or extension of stay.

You do not have to be retired for getting an O-A visa or non-O visa for reason for retirement.

At the Embassy in Sweden where I got my non-O you have to be retired if getting it for retirement reason like you wrote. Over 50 is not enough.

That's interesting but I don't think it's typical. It's a long stay visa. Being over 50 is never enough. You need to meet the financial requirements as well.

In order to get the non-o or oa visa in Sweden you have to show pension income to get the visa no other income is accepted. That is what was meant by the statement that being over 50 is not enough.

The majority of the retired guys I know in Chiang Mai do not work but there is a group of young guys working on every visa under the sun.

Yes that was what I meant.

When I get my non-O visa, I must show pension income. Which in reality exclude 99% of the Swedish people between 50 and 61 years (even if they have a lot of money) to get that visa based on over 50 years and retired.
