davejonesbkk
Can anyone recommend any? Aside from what's in the shopping malls there seem to be very few and extensive Googling hasn't brought up much. There's a few round here I go to regularly with the mrs but they are just Thai known places and then there's Koh Lanta which is nice but we've been there plenty of times and if lime to find some new places to go to, preferably Thai food also but interested in others, thanks
Soi Sauce
Hello, There are quite a few I know of and all easy to get to. First, The Flying Chicken Restaurant on Bang Na Trat itself. If you turn onto the BNT from Sukhumvit, it is on the corner of the first soi on the left opposite Berkely School. It's actually been featured on Discovery TV and is well worth a visit, Best to go at weekends when the atmosphere is great. Check youtube for what it does. Also, if you take the road between Central and Big C that leads to Udom Suk, within a kilometer you will pass at least 6 decent open-air restaurants which are regularly packed with THais. Always a good recommendation. I've tried a couple and they were both excellent. THere's even what is meant to be the World's largest restaurant near the start of the BNT. Not been there but you should be able to find it on google. Hope this helps.
tonytigerbkk
Directly opposite Central Bangna (on the other side of the Bangna Trad road) there is a restaurant called Fai Kham. I have not been there for about 3 years but I used to take customers there a lot and the food was always great. They had the best shrimp cakes (tort man kung) that I have tasted in Thailand. I know that you said aside from shopping malls but have you tried The Wine Connection in Mega Bangna? Great food at a great price. In fact the food area in Mega has a lot of other great restaurants. The other shopping malls in the area have no real decent restaurants so I can understand why you would want to give those a miss., Central Bangna has nothing, Seacon is now a joke and Paradise probably has one or two places that I would eat at. lomatopo
if you take the road between Central and Big C that leads to Udom Suk This is Bang Na Trat Soi 23 (Soi Suan Sawan). I've been to this place: http://kaosuankwang-chicken.com/home.html http://www.eatingthaifood.com/2011/08/bangin-som-tam-at-central-bang-nas-relaxing-isaan-food-retreat/ highly recommended, but usually quite crowded. https://www.google.co.th/maps/@13.674144,100.638664,3a,75y,0.74h,77.98t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sxpB58-fe_XLpKyfakLE3Rw!2e0 http://bk.asia-city.com/restaurants/bangkok-restaurant-reviews/pink-tender https://foursquare.com/v/%E0%B8%8A%E0%B8%8A%E0%B8%B2%E0%B8%87-%E0%B8%A2%E0%B8%81%E0%B8%84%E0%B8%A3%E0%B8%81-yok-krok/4ccac9190a9ab1f776ad1df4 http://gotasty.co.th/bangna.html There are quite a few places in Ramkhamhaeng 2 (Ram Song), either in/adjacent to the market, or behind on Ramkhamhaeng 2 Soi 19 (this is a short walking street). Maybe just drive around?
tonytigerbkk
Alternatively if you carry on past Mega for about another 10km, you can come to our local (weekly) barbeque.
