For Thais and others familiar with the love and respect Thais and residents have for His Majesty: No. For someone not familiar with the Thai King ans his position in Thailand: Possibly.

Not sure if the intended audience is the latter group of people (ie. those not already familiar with Thailand and Thai culture, etc.) If that's the case then those people might find it over the top, yes.

I thought the major news organizations (CNN, BBC) got it very spot on in their reports on the 60 year celebrations last week and this week. They succeeded very well in explaining the position of the King in Thailand to a global audience.
