6 Weeks Travelling - Visa Help

Featured Replies

Firstly, I just wanted to say that I've looked all over the forum and on some other sites for travellers and I'm still a little unsure which is why I'm posting this. If it has already been answered, please direct me to the post and feel free to delete this!

A friend and I (we're both from the UK) are heading to Thailand in June for a little over 6 weeks. We plan to spend a few days in Bangkok and then go to Cambodia before coming back to Thailand and travelling down to visit my sister in Prachuap Khiri Khan and then going on to Koh Tao, Phuket etc. I think from what I have read, we will have to go to our nearest Thai consulate and get a 60 day tourist visa, is this correct? And I'm also confused about the re-entry information if we go to Cambodia and then return...

Could someone clarify this a little more for me? We don't want to get over there and have trouble within the first couple of days!

Thanks in advance.

a single entry tourist visa will give you 60 days and another 30 with extension from immigration. A re-entry permit can be had at the airport upon departure a single entry will cost you 2,000baht if you do not get a re-entry permit you will be given a 30 day visa exemption upon arrival. Maybe plan your trip differently and go to Cambodia later in the cycle and you will not need a re-entry permit

We're actually aiming to be in southern Thailand for the end of our trip at the beginning of August because it's my birthday and we're meeting with my sister so although it's a good idea, it wouldn't really work. The single entry tourist visa for 60 days, do I have to get that from the consulate in the UK or can I get that when I arrive at the airport in Bangkok? From what I've read, it seems that they only issue 30 day visas on arrival in Bangkok...

Also we were planning to travel by land to and from Cambodia so will I be able to get the re-entry permit at the border when I cross back into Thailand?

You can only get a 30 day visa exempt entry. A visa on arrival is only for those from certain countries and is only for 15 days.

You should get atleast a single entry ( 2 is possible) tourist visa from the embassy in London or one of the consulates in the UK.

Without a visa or a ticket out of the country within 30 days you can be denied boarding your flight.

IIf you are flying to Cambodia and can show the tickets for that trip and the 30 day entry you get on return is enough time you would not need a tourist visa.

If making your trip by land and/or the 30 day entry is not enough I suggest suggest you get a 2 entry tourist visa.

It is possible to get a single entry visa and then get a single re-entry permit (1000 baht) to keep your 60 day entry valid when your return from Cambodia. The cost of a re-entry permit and getting a 2nd entry on the tourist visa are the same.

Almost correct. A single re-entry permit only costs 1000 baht not 2000 baht.

If their schedule requires it getting a 2 entry tourist visa would be the best option.

Get a double enrty TV. No hassle, you can make your trip to Cambodia and when you reenter you will activate the second entry and get 60 days. You won't have to visit immigration to get a re-entry permit and it costs exactly the same as a single plus the re-entry permit (2000 baht for the double or 1000 baht for the single + 1000 baht for the re-entry permit).
