Cambodia’s Tourism Ministry mulling Thailand travel warning

PHNOM PENH: -- The Ministry of Tourism is considering issuing an official travel warning to all citizens thinking of travelling to Thailand as the political crisis there continues, according to the Phnom Penh Post.

Minister of Tourism Thong Khon said yesterday that despite no notable decrease in tourist numbers between Cambodia and Thailand having yet resulted from the crisis, the government remains wary of the risks.

“We have not sent out any warning alert for Cambodian tourists who wish to visit Thailand yet. We are monitoring the situation now,” he added.

The Indian Embassy on Friday issued an updated travel advisory warning all citizens to be cautious of their personal safety as Thai anti-government protesters move to occupy central government buildings and as rallies in the capital continue. The unrest has been ongoing for more than six months.

Last week, the UK, Canadian, Singaporean and Australian governments all issued similarly increased warnings regarding travel to Thailand’s capital and border crossings with Malaysia and Cambodia.

But a warning now may not be warranted, with domestic tourist sentiment still “generally” healthy, Sinan Thourn, chairman of the Pacific Asia Travel Association, said.

Thourn said Cambodian tourists have not been cancelling their travel plans but that he had seen a slight decrease in the number of people choosing to visit Thailand.

whats to mull about, cambodia can now take advantage of thailands ongoing problems

they might even send more black shirts and weapons to stoke up the problem for their criminal friend in Dubai!!

Who will issue a warning next,Somalia,Syria,if they do then i can see a mass nervous breakdown in Tats headquarters.

As if Cambodians were safer in their country..

O Tempora, O Mores .. somehow I find this ironic.

As if Cambodians were safer in their country..

As of now, I would say they are. Thailand, the hub of demonstrations, grenade attacks, shootings, problems...

I didn't know Cambodia had any tourists coming to Thailand I thought they were all construction workers and laborers, oh yes and the ones the reds hired, perhaps they came on tourist visas.

But no that cant be right there is a visa exempt deal between Thailand and Cambodia.

That is the ultimate lose of face for Thailand...Cambodia worrying about its people traveling to Thailand...laughable...

they might even send more black shirts and weapons to stoke up the problem for their criminal friend in Dubai!!

Wish I got 25 satang for every time I heard that line.

Looks like ASEAN is getting ready to rumble.

Looks like ASEAN is getting ready to rumble.

For Thailand, ASEAN is going to be a cluster <deleted> of epic proportions. Wouldn't be surprised if they pull out of it.

Cambodians should be concerned about travel to Thailand. Whatever happened to that van of 15 or more Cambodians that was spotted by the Thai military officer near the border. He and other Thai military may be looking for an excuse to arrest Cambodians and accuse them of interference in their revolution or something. Whatever happened to the follow up news from the Thai press on that van with 15 Cambodians and weapons spotted by the Thai military officer? Did the Thai press follow up on that or just let it drop?
