Nigeria bombings: 'Death toll passes 100'

JOS: -- The bodies of at least 118 people have now been recovered from the sites of twin bombings in the central Nigerian city of Jos, the nation's emergency management agency says.

The first blast was in a busy market, the second outside a nearby hospital.

No group has said it was behind the attack but Boko Haram militants have carried out a spate of recent bombings.

Jos has also seen deadly clashes between Christian and Muslim groups in recent years.

A spokesperson for the regional governor told AFP news agency that most of the victims were women. The market and bus terminal are part of the commercial centre of Jos.

The thing about these Islamists nuthuggers is that they are all pussies. They need bombs because that are incapable of being men and handling themselves like men and they abuse, kidnap and kill women because no women in the right mind would want to have a smelly, hairy loser.

I think we are becoming so immune to appalling news such as this- the people killed are just going about their business. As everywhere they are trying to make a living, look after their families, children and survive in a totally corrupt oil rich country.

Africa is incredibly wealthy with natural resources- it should be up there in developed nations, but sadly no.

I just cannot understand the mindset of these Islamists. I can understand that some people have very deep religious beliefs . They can retreat to their church, mosque or temple and lead a quiet life reading their holy books. No problem . It is however a selfish pursuit .

Islam does not seem to have turned out to be a peaceful religion- it strives to impose its outdated views on others and to achieve the world Caliphate . In the next few decades Islam will tear this world apart.

Islam is pretty much in a place where Christianity was a few hundred years ago.

Give it time. Plenty of.

I absolutely agree with you- if you consider the schism between Catholics and Protestants and the total control that the church had over the population with the notion of eternal damnation . We no longer live in a medieval world.

But things have moved on- we have the concept of human rights, equality for women, the right to live your life happily and peacefully regardless of your race, sexuality, religious belief.

But these people wish to return to that world- where in a totally utterly selfish act ( to achieve martyrdom and paradise) they blow themselves up- and maim and kill .

How many sons and daughters lose their parents- how many children become orphans- how many people lose their limbs.

All because of the belief in a totally fictitious being. Homo Sapiens has evolved to be an extraordinary species, there was no creator .

Hopefully you are right- but where are the moderate , peaceful Muslims- why are they not protesting in every city to rid the world of their fellow Muslims ( who in the name of the same religion) are causing death, torture, and destruction.

In the next few decades Islam will tear this world apart.

Sadly, it's already doing so. But I agree, worse is yet to come. What could be worse?

>>> Poisoning water supplies and drinks.

>>> bombing yet more fun places, like Bali (watch out Thailand, you're as vulnerable as a 15 year old cutie in a bikini who walks in a packed biker bar at 2 am)

>>> bombing anything of value to infidels. Also killing fellow Muslims, particularly those who don't see exactly, note for note, the fanatic way they see things.

>>> disease and toxin releases.

>>> What would Muslim fanatics rather get their hands on: a ton of radioactive material to make dirty bombs, or a vial of smallpox? I don't know, but they're both enticing to them.

Its’ been reported that the Boko Haram are heavily armed and the Nigerian security forces will not enter the alleged areas where they have bases. Hopefully with special forces training and surveillance facilities offered by Western governments and the Chinese it will motivate the Nigerian military into action and also block any attempts by Boko Haram to move into neighbouring countries. China has a lot a stake in Nigeria, that includes a recent US$13+ billion contract to build rail infrastructure

In the meantime, in case anyone missed the report, local forest hunters have committed to enter the forest retreats of Boko Haram to try to locate & kill them

When you say "think have moved on" - that does not necessarily apply everywhere on the globe. Human rights, religious freedom, democracy, freedom from discrimination and prosecution based on gender, race or sexual preference can not be

said to be the norm in many parts of the world. There is no question of "returning to that world", of going backwards - as the new brave world advertised was never theirs to begin with. A better phrasing might be that they do their best to keep these notions from becoming the norm in their areas of influence.

The time frame I'm referring to isn't optimistic, to say the least. Looking back on history, these sort of changes take hundreds of

years. And that's without taking into consideration that things may indeed go "backwards" or "stall". In my opinion, the best we

can hope for, in our lifetime, is for things not to get much worse.

There aren't that many mass movements of moderate Muslims because most of the relevant countries are ruled by regimes that

are either dictatorial or strict religious in nature, or a fusion of both. This sort of government does not promote people taking to

the streets in general. The same combo does not promote education and/or growth of free thinking, as these may lead to its

downfall. Furthermore, Islam being a relatively new religion, there is still a lot of zeal, radicalism and intolerance toward other

religions present.

The surest way to get people unhooked on religion is to promote education, improve economical conditions and exposure to new concepts and ideas. That, and giving it a lot of time.

The hunters story actually got some decent coverage, being a bit on the exotic side:

Traditional Nigerian hunters want a chance at finding kidnapped schoolgirls Around 500 hunters armed with homemade guns, poisoned spears and amulets say they have been specially selected by their peers for their spiritual hunting skills, and have been waiting for two weeks in Maiduguri to get support from the military so they can get moving.

Not sure what military aid, if any, was offered by China.

100 is a sad number of innocents dying, fersure.

Yet it's around the same number killed in any 3 days on Thai roads.

In one case, there are intentional bombings, in the other, there are rude and drunk drivers.

The numbers are the same, but cannot really attribute ill intent or malice to road accidents.

That's why they're called accidents, rather than road attacks.

China has offered intelligence surveillance capability. More info on US contribution below, mentions US is constrained with assisting Nigeria owing to "The Leahy Law' due to human rights abuses by Nigerian forces.

Thanks for the link.

The Leahy thing is a bit confusing, as they say some intel will not be shared (if the meaning is "no sharing of raw intel" - that is

quite standard), but seems like they found a loophole to train and coordinate with the Nigerians.

Just read that this bunch have just slaughtered 48 village folk.........sad.png

Aye. Puts some perspective on Thai talk of "civil war", and even on the violence down south.

Guess many residents do not have resources to move, and that the options open for those who can aren't that great.

Dozens killed in attacks on Nigerian villages

Suspected Boko Haram fighters have killed 48 villagers in northeastern Nigeria near the town where the group kidnapped more than 270 schoolgirls.

The three villages attacked overnight Tuesday and early Wednesday are near the town of Chibok, where the girls were abducted from their boarding school in a brazen April 15 assault that has ignited a global movement to secure their freedom.

The attacks came hours after twin car bombs exploded at a crowded bus terminal and market in Nigeria's central city of Jos, killing at least 122 people.

agree. however, strange that the bombing that killed 31 civilians in china today, people somehow find reasons to sympathize with the perpetrators.
