GeorgeO Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 Has Oak been taken in already? I don't recall seeing anything mentioned about him. devaram Jatuporn is already detained, after yesterday's meeting. Don't know, but Oak was not on the list of 100, IIRC. He's probably busy, frantically deleting his Facebook/Twitter comments of the past six months ... hopefully too late though...!!
GentlemanJim Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 You know that in many places in Thailand it almost seems a national past-time to have competitions where guys take those little birds in cages and listen to them sing, prizes being given to the bird that sings the best. I just wonder how much all these 'birds' are singing now that are currently being summoned by the army. Now that would be a delightful thing to watch. I bet each one is trying to sing louder than the other in order to avoid a jail term for corruption. But but he............ I wish they would televise it! 2

Popular Post SICHONSTEVE Posted May 23, 2014 Popular Post Posted May 23, 2014 HOT TOPIC ALERT! This one is going to ignite ThaiVisa today. Big question, will any of them respond....or are they even in the country right now? Does Prayuth know what he 's doing, a bleak future for all of us. Yes he knows what he is doing - he is fixing Thailand's woes and things can only improve from here. It seems like the Shin's have been banished from Thai politics and that is the single most positive aspect of this necessary coup (even if it did take its time coming)!!! If you have a tooth ache what is the best thing to do? Take out the tooth with its root, of course and Prayuth has just become a dentist. 5
Thakkar Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 Just think - if they stupid Shiniwatra clan had actually proposed a moderate rice policy, and NOT tried to get an amnesty for Thaksin - PTP would still be in power and none of this would have happened. I bet there are a lot of folks saying. WT F did we do? We had it all! Morons. Overreaching is in the nature of the beast. Same goes for the other side. Winner takes all is the state of politics in far too many countries these days. T
rubl Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 The tedious and tiresome " Thaksin is the root of all evil" mantra continues unabated.. So many foreigners buy into this short-sighted nonsense and one wonders how they will respond, if at all, when it becomes clear that the problems are far more complex than can be answered in glib one liners about Thaksin. Completely agree, Thaksin is only a (bigger) part of the problem
sweatalot Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 I'm not the loser here, Thailand is - what does scampers post add to the thread? I do laugh at the number of posters on here who leap to scampers defence whilst he refuses to respond to any criticism. TVF has it's very own phra buddha scamper. I do understand scamper very well, I, too prefer not to respond to criticism when it is silly 2

Completely agree, Thaksin is only a (bigger) part of the problem Correct.. but he is the reason of this.. if he was not included in the amnesty the protests would not have happened and the poor redshirt protesters would be free. So long in jail and this government did nothing. to busy getting dear leader back and filling their pockets with corruption money. Now that they are gone the true crimes can be investigated and the rice scheme can be really checked.. I bet there are a lot of politicians on the red side with brown underwear now 1

Baerboxer Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 Just tell the general you are in Chiangmai and it would be impossible to drive to BKK whilst there is a curfew b/w 10 and 5. I think Yingluck prefers helicopters. Yes - and she must fly during daylight hours as hers don't have lights or radar.
Eric Loh Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 The three strikes law don't apply for the Shin or Shin related poltical party to win the next election. 2 military and 1 judiciary coups and will still win big at next election. The PDRC can have their laugh and victory lap now while the PT will have their tails behind their backs but will have the last laugh at the next election. Havent the coupists, establishment and the Dem know this repeating occurrence. All these coups just harden the support for PT and enhance their hatred for the Dem. 1

Popular Post The Deerhunter Posted May 23, 2014 Popular Post Posted May 23, 2014 <script type='text/javascript'>window.mod_pagespeed_start = Number(new Date());</script> I could understand all this if the intention was to lock them all in a room until they had a solution that they were all agreed on. But its a job to understand where all this is going Sent from my Nexus 4 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app I think this coup was staged far too early. It looks like the general is used to getting things done quickly and doesn't understand the slow process of negotiation. The martial law was fine and maybe could have been earlier as it could stop more bloodshed and allow things to cool to give time for talks. It's a pity in some ways that Yingluck isn't still caretaker PM. She's no worse than could be expected without any experience but she does seem to be less confrontational. If they could have got her into negotiations without access to Thaksin then they might have got somewhere. If it were her and Abhisit who is also more likely to compromise than Suthep that might have brought results. Maybe they'll try to do something to encourage talks now they've shown they're serious. I won't hold my breath though. I hear ya, but I do think that the Military showed real constraint. The political impasse and the hamsterwheel negotiation style has been going on for months. By all accounts Prayuth was very reasonable. He was talking with the caretaker Government asking "will you resign so that reforms and elections will take place" and they said 'no', so he turned to his Officers and effectively said "implement plan B - now", he told all present that in that case he "was taking control". All seems fair to me. I agree with GentlemanJim completely. I would add that a coup is a bit like telling a joke on the stage. If you don't get your timing exactly right then the audience won't understand. I am amazed at the folk who do not see that the timing of this has been faultless. 6.5 months of Suthep's education followed by a warning with Martial Law 2 days ago and then a final ultimatum yesterday. And then the idiots handed him his checkmate! I have to admit I do not completely understand the exact dynamics between Suthep, Abhisit & the general, if any, but the end result should be a win for all of Thailand. The losers will be the greedy Chiangmaimmart, the communists, the republicans and those who dream of separatist & glorious Lannas & Chiangmais. Oh, and those in Central/south who dream of an end to the current constitutional structure, for a return to an outdated, non democratic form of government. To the red apologists and others who say " but if the Dems or someone else get in the Ammart will control them and get all nasty & corrupt again" I say you are wrong! They will try, but Suthep's lessons and the internet & social media will never let any government get away again with what has gone on before. The Thaksinites only lasted this long because the social structure in the north allowed them to control a large chunk of the rural population by poverty, servitude, bribery and outright standover bullying, The influence of independent thinking through internet media in the North was thus limited. So far so good, General. Please carry on and do the rest in the interests of all Thais as well as you have done over the last few days and months. 3

House arrest is the best option for those who have been summoned. The only way he's going to 'get to the heart of the corruption that has effectively raped the county's coffers' as you put it, is to get his front trotters in the trough as quickly as possible.
