Night Buses to Malaysia Running?

Featured Replies

I know it's early days yet with this coup thing but I need to go to Penang via Hat Yai from Hua Hin in a couple of weeks.

Does anyone know if the night buses are running? I know flights aren't interrupted. But flights tend to mostly not be on roads. So my question is just about buses running past 10pm. Thanks for any help or information.

Sadao border seems to be unaffected by the coup thumbsup.gif

I do know that there were some changes to the minivan services going from Phuket >> Penang and Hat Yai >> Penang. Newsia still does coach bus to Penang. Not sure about going to KL. I do not know the Thai side, but in hat yai there are several agents around the bus station that claim to offer the service. But I don't know who to trust.

Alternatively, you can do the minibus from Hat Yai to danok (Sadao) border for 57 baht. Then take a series of taxi/busses to get you to Penang, KL, etc. All of this is detailed in a recent visa run post done; just ignore the visa part.

On the Malay side, is is 35RM / 350 baht and that includes the entire trip from Komtar, Penang in a coach bus to the Sadao border, switch to minibus that takes you into Hat Yai.

Perhaps the Visas and migration to other countries or Thailand Travel folder might be a better category as this is not visa-specific.

I consider it highly unlikely that the nationwide curfew with

last another two weeks.

As it happens, this is completely relevant to visa-related topics because I need to renew my visa in Penang. I know about the bus route and the minibuses and Komtar and all that. But what I'm asking is "since the 10pm curfew has come into effect, are night buses still running?" It's not a hard question. I know planes are. Right. Got that. But has anyone in the past day or two been on a night bus that's been running past the curfew or have night buses stopped running?" Simples.

Why don't you contact the transport company or mochit. They can tell you if night busses are running.

If I understand the announcement on nakhon chai air website, there are no night busses. Only busses that leave after 06:00 and reach their destination before 21:30.

I don't know specifically about buses to Malaysia. My wife left Mo Chit going to North East Thailand tonight at 20:10 and was told the very last bus to leave would be 22:00.

I would think it a bit doubtful for International.

So buses ARE running at night only that they have to begin their journey no later than 22.00? Interesting...

As of tonight they were. I was very sceptical but the wife phoned Mo Chit ahead and checked.

She's almost at Khorat without any checkpoints.

Some other northern destinations had the last bus leaving 21:00

Of course it's a fluid situation and things could change daily but I suspect they would be happier to see people leaving BKK.

I'd be curious to see what Thai roads look like during a supposed curfew. Where there any other vehicles on the roads?

Thanks for the answers so far.

Sounds like a completely random sh*tshow but the "last bus at 22:00"responses seem to be the most reasonable- depending on what your definition of "reasonable" is. I think I'll wait a week and see what the story is then. I'm normally a big "plan ahead" type, especially when it comes to avoiding overstaying but in this case the picture's a bit too fluid...

the night busses appear to still be running (in chumphon anyway). It just has to leave by 22:00, which most busses going to Bangkok, Hat Yai, etc are doing. Not sure if rest stops and gas stations are staying open, though.

I just recently did a visa renewal in Penang.
