Featured Replies

going from u.k / dubai / bkk can you have fruit in your carry on luggage ie, peaches , nectarines .

soft fruit that the wt would like to try ? please dont tell me you can buy at TOPS or TESCO over

here i only want to know about airport rules , i tried asking emirates but help line NOT helpful .

thank you .

Simple answer ...No. Can't bring fruit into any country from another. Majority countries have that rule. Not worth the risk or the fine.

I see "food" on the Thai Customs site but related to importation licenses and controls by FDA, and not fruit specifically. I presume by carry on, you are bringing a small amount for personal use which wouldn't raise many eyebrows. Did look on DLD and Thai Agriculture sites and also find no reference to fruit being prohibited.

I've brought fruit in hand luggage before but haven't been stopped at customs. I don't think it's a problem but if customs are unhappy they will probably only confiscate it.

I very recently flew BKK-LON-BKK on Qatar via Doha. They showed videos before arrival at LON clearly indicating what items were prohibited in UK (i.e. almost everything...), which I'd not seen previously. There were no similar videos shown prior to arrival in BKK (or Doha for that matter).

Check-in at BKK clearly indicated that Durians and Firearms were prohibited though....

whistling.gif Usually bringing fresh fruit into a country without a agricultural health check is prohibited. The reason is not the fruit but the possibility of insects or a disease that may be brought in with the fruit.

For example there may be a plant disease on that fruit, that may then spread into the country the fruit was brought into.

So most countries will confiscate and destroy such fresh fruit brought into their country to avoid the possibility of that disease or insects being brought into their country and spreading to that country's agricultural products.

Most likely, if discovered, all the fruit you bring in to Thailand will be confiscated and destroyed to prevent the chance of some disease or insect entering Thailand unintentionally.

I don't think thai customs do bother with fruits.

the issue might be in europe, if they really want to be nasty

We fly from LHR-BKK quite often with fruit, cherries in particular are much prized in LOS. Heathrow security strict and we've often out to unpack our packs including fruit with never an eyebrow raised. gone through checks at Doha and Dubai with no problems either. BKK, well just walk through, they would probably find an excuse to confiscate my cherries if I declared 'em. Not a problem bringing fruit back to the UK either....Australia, different ball game, very strict.
