All set for Phuket mass wedding

The fees for the wedding include traditional Baba-Nyonya wedding clothes.

PHUKET: -- This year’s mass Baba Wedding will take place on June 21 and 22 in Old Phuket Town.

The deadline for couples to register to get married is Saturday this week (May 31).

The fee per couple is B39,000, which includes hotel for three nights, food, snacks and drinks, costumes, makeup, coiffure, photographs and tour activities. (Transfers to and from the hotel are not included)

The programme is as follows:

June 21: Check-in at hotel. In the afternoon, registration to get documents and costumes, followed by visit to Wat Chalong, then boat trip to watch sun set over Chalong Bay. In the evening, still on board the boat, introduction to the steps of the Baba Wedding and dancing rehearsal. Return to land and to hotel.

June 22: Couples dress in traditional clothes and bride gets makeup and coiffure. After lunch bride and groom will be picked up separately, the grooms going to the Blue Elephant restaurant and the brides to the Hongyok Mansion. The grooms will then walk in procession though the Old Town to the Hongyok Mansion.

The couples will then perform various traditional ceremonies before having their photographs taken in front of the Hongyok Mansion and then walking in procession through Phuket Old Town to Tai Hua Museum for more photos. This will be followed by the wedding party before the couples are finally whisked away to a “luxury hotel by the beach”.
