I am 25 years old, I am married to a wonderful girl the same age as me. We have set up a rather successful private English center out of our apartment, nothing big, but after a year and a half the word has sort of gotten around. She also has exceptional English skills as she studied in the USA and she is doing translating....

problem is, all my friends have either left or turned out to be complete drunkards, or bi polar types....

I like to take hikes up to Phupan Noy and like to explore with motorbikes around the province (although my motorbike was stolen ,because I lent it to a falang friend who left the keys in the ignition... ) I also like to practice my Thai/Issan around the town

If anyone lives in the Nongbualamphu area and would like to meet up for a coffee or a cold beer...any age please PM me...with this lack of friends in Thailand, I have cabin fever...who knows? Maybe we already know each other!

I live at the western edge of NBL province, near Erawan. I ride a a HD Road King. I am 58 I do not do hiking , but a beer does sound good once in a while.

I spend 90% of my time in my house. Cabin fever does not affect em but I do not mind an outing sometimes.

Not that hard to set something like this up with time, patience, a good partner and the right paperwork...I can assure you my friend it is all 100% legal....

Possibly one of your former bipolar friends is sharing. Maybe others amongst the apparent legions you've cast off (for not measuring up to your high standards) are reading this now and plotting drunken, bipolar revenge.

Wouldn't it be better to get out to the places that serve coffee or cold beer, possibly even with the wife, and see if you encounter some friendly types? Soliciting friends on Thai Visa means you could just end up with some more of the same type that you have already jettisoned ... as well as some other needy, clingy types from whom you'll struggle to disengage. You could even meet some pleasant people, even Thai people !!!, who wouldn't be caught dead on Thai Visa, thus improving the chance they won't be glued to a bar stool or have personality "quirks."

Or by "friends" do we assume you mean only the farang type? Those pesky "standards" can really do damage to the potential candidates list.

me myself live up north like yourself, but in Chaiyaphum. I like these motorbike-rides as well. But unfortunately to much milage inbetween us... So good luck ... if you ever close to Chaiyaphum, just drop a PM and we can meet up.

The company is owned by my wife, her mother and her father...I am EMPLOYED by the company as I would be any other company, nothing more...I am not a part owner or anything like that...I know that this company is legal and nothing was done "under the table" like you people are assuming....

Because you offended the majority of TV members when you were judgmental about alcoholics and bi-polar types...it describes most here.

You might look into the HHH "Hash House Harriers" or other running clubs. They are almost always a good bunch of people who probably like to hike as well.

Well I guess you could be a 49% partner couldn't you? As funds and knowledge go, how much do you contribute..... Unfortunately Smurkster there are a lot of bitter souls around who would love nothing more than to see a relatively successful younger person fall on their backside, especially in a small upcountry community.

If I were you Smurkster I'd be very careful about what personal details you post here too as it seems like you've got a lot to lose. There's always some loony who'll love to be a part of seeing it all collapse around you; look at some of the alarming replies you've got here already.

All it takes is one drunken loser envious of your successes to start making bother for you as they sit on their shack porch frittering away their meagre income sipping lukewarm Leo night after night, trapped in a cycle of self made misery, sadly I speak from bitter personal experience of these types.

I Learned a long time ago to play my cards very close to my chest when it came to talking about my personal and working life even though I've been legitimately employed and happily married throughout my entire time here.

In my early time here when I was based in a fairly rural part of Eastern Thailand.

The only other 'expats'' there were mostly teachers and a few retired pensioners. Most were scraping a living, but on the whole, not a bad bunch bar one or two rotten apples.

After a few months the anonymous calls to my bosses started, followed with anonymous phone calls to my wife for the heinous crime of liking to go to Pattaya or up to Bangkok for a few nights in Lower Suk.

Thankfully my wife knew this fully and had often accompanied me and my bosses couldn't give a flying ****. Both parties told me fully about these snidey efforts to undermine me.

I found the person responsible and was able to put an end to his shenanigans quickly and boy did he reap what he sowed.

This is the reason I have little time for the expat 'community' these days, having enjoyed it immensely in my early days here. I can now count the number of true friends I have on one hand who know that much about me. When I'm out and about I no longer tell anyone who I work for or where, or nothing about my personal life at all.

There are just too many jealous weirdos around and I've too much to lose.
