Irrigation department releases water as planned though rainy season comes late

BANGKOK, 30 May 2014 (NNT) - The Royal Irrigation Department has confirmed the release of water for agriculture and daily consumption from major dams nationwide will go as planned though the rainy season is coming late.

Deputy director-general Suthep Noipairote said this year the rainy season would come as late as June compared to the usual start of mid-May. However, the department confirmed that the schedule of water release from major dams would go as planned.

The department said that an exception will only be made to the water release plan in the eastern part of the country, at the Khun Dan Prakarn Chon dam in Nakhon Nayok. The area had recently seen only 51 per cent of rainfall, causing a low level of water in the dam.

Suthep also asked farmers to use water economically before the arrival of rainy season.
