do you need a lawyer to have a will in thailand?/

Featured Replies

does anyone actually ( not the TV sherlocks) know if you need a lawyers signature on a will to make it legal???

in canada, i made my own will,, had it notorized/witnessed by 2 people that were not included in the will,, and that is concidered legal.... end of story

but i am living in thailand now so

back to reality,,, if i want to make a will in thailand,,, do i really need to pay some thai (maybe lawyer, who actually knows) 10k baht to sign a name on something i write down??????????????

basically i want to leave my thai g/f my thai assets and then leave my canadian assets to my canadian friends --- no family other than distant cousins etc

can i just make my will in english,, have it professionally translated to thai,, and have it witnessed/ signed by 2 people and then it becomes legal????

as this is a serious subject,, please back up your responses with actual facts,, personal experiences,, references that can be checked

thank you

hi

PS i have dealt with enough wills in english to know how to write an appropriate will.. surviving me by 30 days,, condos and companys having to be sold within 1 yr etc.. if there is some weird thai law that you think i might not know about,, then please state,, but only if you can show something to verify that

thanks

The extent of your Thai assets will determine the level of expertise required.

Straight forward assets can be dealt with by a simple Will. More complex assets require specialist advice etc.

Obviously, you will need to write it in English otherwise you wouldn't understand it. Then it can be translated.

Obviously cross refer the two Wills.

You sound bright enough to Google the bits you need to complete any missing pieces in your knowledge jigsaw.

you asked a question,why not ask a lawyer.facepalm.gif
