cough cough another dental clinic thread :)

ive decided to use elite smile after reading through some threads on here regarding dental clinics

the name DR Joy keeps coming up as the go to girl, however as was mentioned by another poster she is on maternity leave so my question is are all the other dentists at elite ok??? as generally it is only her mentioned in connection with the clinic

thanks

I've used all four dentist at FunSabai on Moon Mueang, and have been satisfied with all of them. Two different specialist referrals were excellent and necessary, too (endodentist for "loot canow" and periodontist for deep cleaning). Reports have been good from Elite, too. Overall the selection of good DDS is outstanding here....the top dental school in the North, if not the whole country, is right up the hill. Two different places told me 1000 thb for cleaning in UTH. I've never paid over 500 here. I ended up paying 500 in KK, but he had the old style equipment, and my mouth was sore compared with the high quality, modern equipment they have here.

I had emergency dental treatment at Elite Smile (root canal filling and crown) and couldn't fault them. However, when I went back for a clean I was charged 800 baht for a 5 minute job. Even the basic NHS clean is more thorough.

I can vouch unreservedly for all of the resident dentists at Elite Smile, they are all very very good, it;s unusual that I can say that about any business in Thailand..

Dr Benjaporn is an instructor at CMU Dental Clinic and is very good, my personal preference however is Dr Chadathip who has done much work in my mouth and is highly skilled and a nice person as well.

And Dr Joy is not a girl, she's a doctor and a mature lady.

I would like some cosmetic dental work done in Chiang Mai. I have a couple of badly chipped teeth in the front and another tooth on the bottom that is uneven with the rest of the teeth so I don't do much smiling in pictures. Any recommendations for dental clinics that do decent smile makeovers that won't break the bank? Thanks.

  • 6 months later...

I go there and the wife goes there no complaints. don't know the name of the dentist and don't care as there is never a problem.

Actually I was a regular at Grace for years...Recently I started using Elite for small things

because Grace is usually booked a bit further out & the little things I needed were rather emergency types.

Things like a cracked filling & an extraction etc.

But it is not uncommon to not know your dentists name at Elite as it seems they cycle a few through there.

So on any given day I cannot say who will be there.

They are good though & reasonable I think...although I agree with what another poster said about cleaning.

Where as Grace is in my opinion too thorough with deep cleaning to the point of being painful...Elite was a bit

too quick for me & I actually went in 2 weeks later for some work & the dentists ( different than previous there who did cleaning) recommended I

do a cleaning....He looked a bit embarrassed when I told him I had just had cleaning there 2 weeks previous

Possible to walk in and get work done straight away? Leaving in 10 days

Just discovered a big phat hole in one of the teeth

Maybe not walk in but you can get an appointment same day/next day pretty easily.

OP - one experience, two thumbs up. No hesitation in recommending Elite Smile.

I had quite a lot of work done at Elite over a 12 month period. I was extremely satisfied with the work and price!

One front tooth they replaced a crown on became loose after several months (almost one year). I went in to have it checked, they sent me to a clinic on Loi Kroh Rd for a CT Scan to find out if the root had cracked. Even with the CT Scan they were unsure, so they cut off the crown they had done to take a look then put on a temp crown. Long story short they quoted me 36,000Baht for root extraction and implant allowing a discount for warranty. I agreed as the old root canal was well over 40yrs old and full of mercury almagum that was added for stability a few years later.

My appointment a week or so later was a shocker. I don't know who the Dr was as they changed my appt time and dentist last minute. He looked at the Xray/CTScan and wrote out what he was going to do and the cost...

- extraction 2,000 Baht

- Implant 36,000 Baht

- bone graft 15,000 Baht

- Temporary crown 3,000 Baht (cannot chew for 2-3 months)

- final crown 15,000 - 20,000 Baht

Total 71,000 - 76,000

I was in shock, told him so and walked out after he was inflexible in his response. Told the receptionist they just lost a customer. Sent a detailed email to the office titled "complaint about your service - price mis-quote/unnecessary service" and a couple days later they called to ask me to come in for a meeting.

It was Dr Joy who met with me and what a JOY she is to talk to and deal with. I cannot say enough good things about that lady.

After very detailed discussion we both agreed to wait 3 months to see if the temporary crown they put in a week before remained stable, it was no longer loose. If so they would put in a new permanent crown. I agreed and asked how much - she said NO CHARGE, it was covered by their warranty.

Point of my long post is if you have any serious complaints about your treatment at Elite, demand a meeting with Dr Joy, she will straighten everything out. She not only is an obviously exceptional & highly ethical human being, just being in the same room with her picks up your spirits.

Once again, sorry for the long post.

Doug

Dr. Joy is indeed excellent, I can't speak too highly of her.

However, she was on maternity leave for several months and I'm not sure if she has in fact returned after having her baby. Someone else might know for sure, or you could call them to find out.

I went for an average cleaning at Elite smile and afterwards i asked the dentist about the possibility of seeing the orthodontist for a consultation. After a quick discussion with her assistant i was told that he doesnt service farangs as he doesnt speak English well. Her actual words were "he doesnt like speaking to farangs" i just assumed it was because of the language barrier. I found this a little strange seeing all the prices at reception were also listed in USD. I wont be going again.

I think there was a was a breakdown in communication or you spoke to the wrong person.

I have recently had some work done at Elite Smile and both the dentist and the receptionist speak good english. At least 50% of the customers I saw were "Farang".

Why is it:

1) most discussed burger joint: closed down.

2) most discussed bar: will be closing down.

3) most discussed restaurant: American food, at American prices.

4) most discussed dentist: one of about 300 in Chiang Mai (there is a top Dental School here), except the big difference is she is not even practicing.

Am I missing something or what?

Elite and language.

In multiple visits it has been my experience that the dentists, orthodontist and endodontist enjoy speaking english- the girls at the desk are less confident, unsurprisingly.

GF had her braces tweaked (monthly process) last week while I waited, and saw another dentist for her 6 monthly clean.. 1200 for the braces, 800 for the deep clean .

And I think I spotted Dr Joy there too- not easy to tell as they walk briskly past, gowned up and hair covered in a shower cap thing!

Hope this helps.

If the weather was just perfect, somebody somewhere would complain how shitty it was, go figure.

could someone who has experience there give the name of the recommended dentist for basic cleaning? thank you.

Dr Benchaporn

I had a clean at Elite. It took less than 10 minutes and cost 1000 baht. I wouldn't recommend them for cleaning.

However, for dental work they're superb.

Clinic Family/Family Clinic(?) in the old city around Wat Phasing, went today actually, had an old filling fall out.. half my molar basically. He did a great job, looks like a regular tooth how he filled it, surprised he managed it as it was literally half missing. He offered a crown at 15k but I plumped for the filling, 2k (bit more than usual as it was basically reconstructing the tooth with filling)

A few months back I needed a molar out there, 500b, no problems. My wisdom teeth grew sideways in my gums, and after Xray etc.. you could see it was more or less fused against the molar I needed out. Poor guy worked at it for about 2 hours making sure it was perfect.

Then and today, top job.

The guy speaks perfect English too, super friendly.

Might be worth a visit.
