I will be entering Thailand on a non-o (ED) visa at the end of the year and my son (age 12) will be my dependent. I'm wondering if his reporting requirements will be aligned with mine or if we will have to do anything extra for him. In addition, what are the reporting requirements for the ED extension. Do I just go to the immigration office every ninety days with the paperwork from my school?

Before the questions start:

* Yes, I am sure I want to get the ED extension.

* Yes, I'm registering through a credible school.

* Yes, I'm getting the visa before I leave the US.

* Yes, I'm a US citizen.

* Yes, I plan on actually attending the classes and learning the language.

* No, I won't be working (not even on the internet) as my husband (US citizen) is employed outside Thailand and won't be joining us for awhile.

* Yes, I can prove that I don't need a Thai income to sustain myself and my son based on my husband's income.

I thought I'd throw all of that out there to save time. wink.png

Thanks!

When you apply for your non-ed visa you should also apply for a non-o visa for your son.

Then after you arrive and have your extension of stay based upon attending school your con can apply for his dependent extension. His extension would be valid for the length of your extension. For example if you only get 90 day extensions his would be the same.

He like you will then need to do 90 day reports of staying longer 90 days in the country. You can do them for him when you do yours.

Excellent. That is how I (logically) thought it should work, but after all, this is Thailand and sometimes logic flies right out the window. The interwebs are also full of misinformation. Shocking, huh? biggrin.png

Once your son goes to school, he can get extensions of stay based on is own education. You can even be a dependent of him, if you cna show 500,000 baht in a bank acocunt in Thailand.
