Curfew lifted in Koh Chang, Hat Yai Koh Phangan

BANGKOK, 9 June 2014 (NNT) - The National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) cancels the night curfew order in three more places including Koh Chang island, Hat Yai and Koh Phangan island.

The NCPO on Sunday issued its 56th announcement on the revocation of the midnight-4 PM curfew in more areas, saying that the situation in some areas had improved without a tendency of violence. The curfew was therefore lifted to reduce effects on the people.

Koh Chang island in Trat province, Hat Yai district in Songkhla province and Koh Phangan island in Surat Thani province are famous tourist destinations in Thailand.

The curfew will be lifted in more and more places. So far the military are doing very well. In the end the curfew will have lasted short only where public safety is great. Not too long ago there were shootings and bombings. None of those now. Let's hope it stays that way.

Sure is, im wondering why Hat Yai has been lifted before CM !

Hat Yai has a heavy military presence on the streets and in the region anyway, the curfew was overkill - and as said, Hat Yai isn't Red Shirt territory.

It's very interesting that TAT claim that tourism is down by about 10%. I met a guy at Big C in Pattaya today, a regular visitor. He arrived from UK a few days ago via EVA Air. On arrival at Suvarnabhumi he found immigration completely empty of arrivals except for 3 Thai people at the Thai passport desk. Always chocker block when I used to come through. Hmmmmmmmmmmm!
