This guy getting 10 years shows that the courts actually have some teeth. First Taxin, now this guy, hmmm, maybe a few of the current slime balls will slink off under a rock never to be seen again.

This guy getting 10 years is like getting Al Capone for tax evasion and then letting him go.

I saw something on the news yesterday about corrupt to the core Vatana Asavahame and his cowardly flight to his own casino in Cambodia.

Seems they were showing a helicopter on the casino's roof and it was marked/connected to someone here. We ll probably hear more about this.

I,m sure that as a Thai citizen you would not intentionally want to appear to undermine what is taking place, Heng.

The sentence, along with the sentencing of .......

1) Thaksins legal team, The Lunch Box case..Guilty

2) Thaksins wife, Brother in Law and the secretary.. Guilty

3) Vatana, Khlong Dan corruption case.. Guilty

4 TO ???)

Who knows what number, as the list is a long one and still growing, Thaksin and the rest of his coherts will surely suffer a similar fate.. It should be..Guilty

( based purely on overwhelming evidence that the prosecution have against them )

The fact that the infamous A.Capone was convicted as charged and the first 3 i,ve semi bracketed regarding Thailand, when it was never thought possible

In both cases a prescedent was set regarding " The so called untouchables "and these infamous thieving B*s*a*d,s have at long last either received or should be given ( based on the present well earned, integrity of the Supreme Court and it,s judges )

Mega jail time, according to the enforcement of the now respected Thai Laws.

Thailands citizens must / can, surely be proud instead of embarrassed as was the case previously and the fact that it has been given international recognition for what is now taking place. :o

As with Al Capone prior to his tax evasion..Guilty

For the record and for your / our members benefit of knowing what happened during his incarceration and more importantly after, May i offer the following courtesy of Wikipediia

Prison time

In May 1932, Capone was sent to Atlanta, a tough federal prison, but he was able to take control and obtain special privileges. He was then transferred to Alcatraz, where tight security and an uncompromising warden ensured that Capone had no contact with the outside world. Capone entered Alcatraz with his usual confidence, but his isolation from his associates, and the repeal of Prohibition, meant his empire was beginning to wither. He attempted to earn time off for good behavior by being a model prisoner and refusing to participate in prisoner rebellions. When Capone attempted to bribe guards he was sent to solitary confinement.

During his early months at Alcatraz, Capone made an enemy by showing his disregard for the prison social order when he cut in line while prisoners were waiting for a haircut. James C. Lucas, a Texas bank robber serving 30 years, reportedly confronted the former syndicate leader and told him to get back at the end of the line. When Capone asked if he knew who he was, Lucas reportedly grabbed a pair of the barber's scissors and, holding them to Capone's neck, answered "Yeah, I know who you are, greaseball. And if you don't get back to the end of that fuc_king line, I'm gonna know who you were."[23]

Capone earned the contempt of many of the inmates in Alcatraz when he refused to take part in a prisoners' strike after a sick inmate, accused of malingering, was denied medical treatment and died. Continuing his work in the prison laundry, Capone was continually harassed by other prisoners and often called a "scab" or "rat." He was eventually allowed to remain in his cell until the strike was resolved.

Shortly after returning to work, an unidentified inmate threw a heavy lead sash at Capone's head, but he suffered only a deep cut on the arm after being pushed out of the way by convicted bank robber Roy Gardner.

Reassigned to mopping up the prison bathhouse, Capone was nicknamed the "wop with the mop" by inmates. He was later stabbed in the back by Lucas, who was sentenced to solitary confinement. Capone was hospitalized for a week. He suffered further harassment and unsuccessful attempts on his life throughout his prison sentence, including spiking his coffee with lye and attacking him as he was walking towards the dentist's office. He remained under protection from several inmates (possibly from payoffs by the Chicago Outfit).

Though he adjusted relatively well to his new environment, his health declined as his syphilis (contracted as a youth) progressed, and he spent the last year of his sentence in the prison hospital, confused and disoriented.[20] Capone completed his term in Alcatraz on January 6, 1939, and was transferred to the Federal Correctional Institution at Terminal Island in California, to serve his one-year misdemeanor sentence. He was released on November 16, 1939, spent a short time in a hospital, then returned to his home in Palm Island, Florida.

Physical decline and death

Capone's control and interests within organized crime had decreased rapidly after his imprisonment, and he was no longer able to run the Outfit after his release. He had lost weight, and his physical and mental health had declined, most noticeably with the onset of dementia. On January 21, 1947, Capone had an apoplectic stroke. He regained consciousness and started to improve but contracted pneumonia on January 24, and suffered a cardiac arrest the next day (possibly associated with the complications of third-stage neurosyphilis).[citation needed]

I /WE can hopefully look forward to the Thai participants of my post declining in a similar fashion to not only that of being common convicted criminals, but also the ignomy and suffering that will go with it.

Wether they go / stay on the run, their fate justice wise will ensure they either stay on the run or serve their sentences, without parole as in the lunch box case.

Plus also of course the little matter of having their illgotten gains, confiscated

IMHO of course.

Could care less about what I appear to be doing.

As a practical point though, comments on this board likely don't undermine or promote anything other than some of our own daily entertainment.

They make this scumbag part of the Cabinet, and they all believe everyone believes he has no contact whatsoever with his fugitive dad and is also concerning his whereabouts. :o
Translation?

:D

yes - just as no politician in the PPP knew that mr n mrs 't' were going to do a runner - contempt of the Juduciary and Court is contempt of who they represent.

That was a translation of what TC said?

As for your contempt comment, it's no different than the X of times people have disagreed with any court verdict or action of the Royal Thai Police. I'd wager it's more than 10 times and less than a million.

my translation of TC's comment would be he is pointing out the outright hypocracy of being part of the legislature when you seem to have a total disregard for the Laws in Thailand.

yes it seems all very common here - not the disagreements with judgements , but the blatent attempts to pervert the course - which makes the voluable and visible outpourings of apparent respect just a facade.

Ingratiating and smarmy with more than a bit of trolling comes to mind, looking back on your contributions

Let us delete the diplomatic " not intentionally ect. ect. and say you ARE undermining on a continual basis, all that is presently giving respect back to the Judicary and the Thai legal system.

Young Husband and Sunrise ect. ect. also come to mind, but their agenda,s are more up front.

Sadly, forum rules forbid me to comment further and I WILL NOT other than to say you once again make it pretty clear where your thoughts are on the present rebirth of law and order and enforcing it. ect. ect.

*more hot air snipped*

Yeah, my thoughts are pretty much right in the total indifference range. My opinion of the pitiful fanaticism of more than a few anti-something or 'ruther folks on this board (that is: you and a few others whose monikers are about as memorable as their silly posts) is somewhere along the lines of: about as entertaining as a typical local soap opera. Good for a laugh or chuckle right before I change the channel (and that's usually not a laugh because the content is funny), but it's pretty much the same thing over and over again.

The audacity-meter is pegged at max on this one....

A convicted fugitive files an appeal while on the lam....

Appeal filed against Vatana conviction

A lawyer for fugitive politician Vatana Asavahame yesterday lodged an appeal with the Supreme Court against his conviction in the Klong Dan wastewater treatment plant corruption case. The Attorney-General, as the plaintiff, will have 15 days to counter the appeal after receiving a copy of it. The Supreme Court's Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions sentenced Vatana to 10 years in jail on Aug 18 after finding him guilty as charged. The former Samut Prakan MP jumped bail and fled the country. He is believed to be hiding in

UPDATE... the needle on the audacity-meter has been broken off now as he has exceeds the limits of the device...

A convicted fugitive who has filed an appeal while on the lam now is going to ask for a Royal Pardon if the appeal fails... :o

Probably figures that if fellow convicted fugitive Thaksin can backdoor ask for one, he can too...afterall, at least Vatana has applied for an appeal and Thaksin never did...

Vatana: "I’m just worried about the country"

KLONG DAN SCANDAL

Fugitive Vatana to seek royal pardon if appeal fails

Fugitive Puea Pandin Party Chief Adviser Vatana Asavahame will seek a Royal Pardon if he fails to overturn his bribery conviction linked to the Klong Dan water treatment scandal, Puea Pandin Party Deputy Leader Man Patthanothai says. Mr Man said seeking a Royal Pardon would be the last resort for Vatana. Vatana was charged with bribing land officials to issue him title deeds for more than 1,900 rai of public land, which was subsequently sold to the Pollution Control Department for the Klong Dan water treatment facility in Bang Bo district of Samut Prakan. Investigators found the multi-Billion-Baht project riddled with corruption. Several high-profile politicians including Vatana were accused of involvement. He was found guilty by the Supreme Court of bribing land officials with gold-framed Buddha amulets. He was sentenced to 10 years in jail. The veteran politician was sentenced in absentia after he jumped bail before his first appointment with the court to hear the verdict in the middle of last year. He fled the country. The court seized his bail of two million baht and rescheduled the verdict announcement for Aug 18. Vatana was found guilty as charged. His whereabouts since are unknown, although it was reported he had fled to the Cambodian border town of Poipet. Mr Man said Vatana had appealed against his conviction through his lawyers. The Supreme Court allows those sentenced 30 days to appeal their sentence with new evidence. "We are asking for a chance to present fresh evidence through the legal channels open to us," said Mr Man, one of Vatana's closest aides. "We place our trust in the justice system." Mr Man said a panel of five judges had been appointed to determine if the submitted evidence - based on the accounts of witnesses who did not previously testify - qualified as new. If the panel finds the evidence is admissible, it will be presented to
