Should there be an "American section" to ThaiVisa?

I apologize to all our kind and generous Brit/Aussie typists, but not American, ThaiVisa aficionados*, but I can not understand a third of what the heck you are writing. Brit and other slang, to me odd words for what I know by a very different word, and nationalistic-based inside jokes are confusing this old American.

Also, pardon me, but a large minority of opinions here about Thai and Thailand by typists using mainly Brit language, terms, and slang are offensive in their superior, arrogant, and dismissive statements about the Thai people and my adopted home, Thailand, which I have come to admire for many good reasons. I can't mute every typist on here.

Further, I find I get interested in a topic only to discover it does not apply to Americans and is confusing in the way the item is stated as though it applied to all foreigners. Typists on this site seldom identify their passport nationality also making it difficult to know what they are talking about. I am an American, that is USA citizen.

Is there any support for an American section to this site or a "for Americans" tag to help me focus on what I need and avoid unpleasantness and just stuff that will never apply to me?

*definition, people who like something very much.

Team America World Police?

I am sure you will need a gun section there

I as a Dutchman would vote against it.. this is a nice melting pot and Americans can be just as bad as Brits and Dutch.

I suggest the OP starts his own forum and then he can make up his own rules..........xwacko.png.pagespeed.ic.jGW10VtQsI.png

Why give a definition for "aficionados" - or do you think your fellow Americans wouldn't know what it means..................coffee1.gif

Well as has often been said Brits and Americans are separated by a common language. If it has a gun forum great but how are nationalities to be vetted?

OP or Over Poster, just in case.........

I always thought USA citizens speak English, as the majority of people in this world.

Forgive my naivety, but has that changed?

What do you speak now?

Spanish?

If a Greek, like me, can understand most of the posts (except, Sandman's), I can't really understand your problem.

This forum is full of stuff that doesn't apply to me, learn to deal with it. It isn't that hard. And, if you can't get the jist of what someone is saying because they use a few words you are unfamiliar with, how the he11 do you get by in Thailand? Even different parts of the US use terms only common in a particular area. What should we do? Aussie only forum, Brit only forum, Eastern Guamanian only forum? BTW I am American born and raised.

"The IRS is coming to get you" ?

Personally, I think its a great idea, as it doesn't matter what the topic is on TV, one of the colonial cousins always attempts to make it about the US and starts waving the flag

So a big yes from me, give them their own forum provided they refrain from invading all other topics on TV and trying to make them about the US

And I should add if one on colonial cousins does invade another thread on TV and starts their post " in California, in Chicago etc an instant life ban from TV

I agree with the OP, there should be an American section, and all the members should be locked in there and not allowed to post on the other forums.

I would welcome an American section in Thai Visa where I could post my views on American Foreign Policy and the west's crackpot following of US patented democracy without my posts being summarily deleted as off topic!

Well we all know now where the Cultural Imperialism thread came from. Thailand for Americans!

I'm looking forward to the discussion on emptying out septic tanks in that forum.

Of course there won't be a humour section.

If aggressive and like on roids.. the american.

If aggressive and like drunk then Brits

If mellowed out and high.. Dutch

All in good fun of course.

If the Americans get their own forum, I hope Sandman also gets one as well

Personally, I enjoy trying to figure out what the heck the Brits and Aussies are getting so worked up about. Hubby and I now use words like punter and wonker in our daily conversation, although I suspect we do miss some of nuisance. Other words of theirs are just more efficient -- like aircon. And then, you've got to change your vocabulary entirely so people will understand you. We figured this out after a few blank stares when we said "cell phone".

Come on, get with the program. You're in a new world here. Embrace the English language in its many forms.

Ah, but that forum would be sponsored by a language school like Walen.
