Over 100,000 students face violence in their own schools

About 150,000 students nationwide have been victims of bullying or violent attacks by other children.

Mr. Amornwit Nakhonthap (อมรวิชช์ นาครทรรพ), the Director of Ramjitti (รามจิตติ) Institute, said a recent brawl between school girls was nothing new as violence in schools have been prevalent for quite a long time.

He said the surveys found that about 150,000 students of secondary and vocational training schools used to be bullied or harmed by schoolmates and problems were most serious in the Central Region.

Mr. Amornwit said children could imitate acts of violence they seen in TV dramas or movies so the media should be more responsible in what they would present to the public.

He said children should be taught to settle disputes through peaceful means.

he was treatened with violence, unless he handed over money each day,

he was so scared that he gave up school.

He saw what happpened to someone who went to their teacher ,the poor kid ended up hurt,

the school did not want to know.

Violence among students is and always has been a problem. People are, by nature, violent--children in particular are violent and part of the socialization process of growing up is teaching them methods other than violence to cope with situations. Left to their own devices, young people will be violent.

It's a role of the school to prevent violence among children--at least while at school.
