Invasion?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

Noticed today an abundance of these creatures around the new area where I live. I have never seen them in Phuket before and wondered if they are harmful and if there is any way to get rid of them easily.

Any ideas or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Cheers!

Always many around this time of year. They can bite just like 'tinkur'.

It's a type of millipede (two pairs of legs per segment), most millipedes are harmless to humans although some can give you a rash from their defence mechanism.

We used to get millions when the rains started, now we have guinea fowl that pick up every last one as soon as they emerge, not seen one this year.

A couple of chooks (get girls), week old 50 Baht from the market, will convert them into delicious free-range eggs tongue.png

They love elephant dung and breed in their thousands if you

use it in your garden after the monsoon season starts, they

just disappear after a few weeks it you dispose of them regularly

There are different types of creatures that roughly look like that (difficult to distinguish). One of the varieties has a maddeningly painful bite, though the pain only lasts 5 seconds. They will roll up when something touches them, after that you can sweep or even pick them up to be discarded.
