Popular Post beau thai
Hesitate to give a heads-up on restaurants as people have such varying tastes and demands. But we have eaten a few times at Nang Sabai, run by a friendly french-thai couple from Reunion, near Madagascar. Simple place with about 6 tables serving thai food between 40-60 baht, and french specials of the day. Tonight I had a venison steak (from Lampang), served pink, with a light creamy peppercorn sauce, garlic bread, mash potato (could have opted for fries) and a small salad. At a guess the steak was about 200g and fine for me - but maybe small for those who like Duke-size portions. Amazing value at 120baht I thought. They also had Poulet Cordon Bleu and two other dishes I cant recall, and I have yet to try their Maigret du Canard. Wine at 80bht a glass though I havent tried it yet . Australian white and Chilean red I think. Its at 232 Chiang Mai- Lamphun Road, on the left as you head from Holiday Inn towards Gymkhana Golf . Opens 12-3 and 6-9, closed sundays-and I think maybe tomorrow for the holiday. Possible to phone ahead to check daily specials etc on 0846114270. Also do spaghetti and burgers.

You may have to look a little harder for the restaurants but they are here-and we are a walk from Chang Klan/Night bazaar area-if you are reasonably fit. Just come back from tennis. May go to the Nong Hoi TexMex tonight which we prefer to Dukes. And we are a walk to Gymkhana golf - nice place to sit on the terrace and eat/drink in the shade. And plenty of places to get a good massage. Not to mention the fresh food market. Cemetery? Coma? Sorry old chap but you really do not know what you are talking about, again. But maybe you prefer to live near Loy Kroh, Spotlight etc. Each to their own.

eyecatcher
I kerb crawled along there this morning trying to spot this place. The farang kitchen is easy to spot, the only other place which looked to have a tiny but of style was one with coloured tables, ....I think maybe that's the one.? As far as location goes, whilst not agreeing with evenstevens it is on the worst eclectic stretch of hotchpotch businesses and credit to them to try and break the mould, it needs it. The owners that invest there have the advantage of getting in when the rents are cheap and their success will bring in other nice shops, then rents increase. And of course value. I hope they create a rod for their own back, that means they were successful.

Nang Sabai is on the same side but maybe 400m towards Gymkhana, almost next to the large electricity office. Looks more thai style from the outside than farang kitchen. And you are right, that strip has cheap rents and not a lot to offer-yet.
