Hi

My school year is done the 1 Oktober ,get last 90 days extention in September so my Ed visa extension will run to end of December, Can I just stay to that last extension is running  out and then I will anyway go to get a Non O for retirement in some embassy around Asia?

Your extensions ends when your school ends. You will need to cancel the extension on the last day of school and cannot stay until the end of your permission to stay.

You will probably only get an extension up to the date your course of study is paid for.

Which in your case may well result in you not being able to get another extension since it is so close to that date.

Thanks guys, headache just get bigger. Will need 2 month more visa as I need that time to move more funds and the money for retirement visa, need to be in bank 60 days before I apply so only thing I can do then is to get one more year school, darn 25 k for 2 month is a lot.I cant get any Turist visa that is for sure ok thanks

You could get a tourist visa in a neighboring country for 2 months and after 30 days apply for a conversion to a non-immigrant visa based on retirement. For the conversion, which will give you 3 months, the money does not need to be seasoned (but must come from abroad).

After 60 days you can than apply for a 1 year extension based on retirement, at which time the money does need to be seasoned.

You could even try to apply for a non-O visa directly instead for a tourist visa. Normally if they want to see money, it can be in a bank in your home country. A single non-O should be obtainable in a neighbouring country without much problems.

Perhaps you could talk to your school about just paying for a few more hours of study. I would think most schools would do that.

I don't think the MOE and immigration require a full year of study to get a 90 day extension.

Ok well I have several Turists visa before I started on ED and as things looks with all this crackdown I would not try that but maybe the school can help

but Mario2008 you say. Turist visa I can apply for a conversion to a non-immigrant visa based on retirement? Cant I do that on my Ed visa also?So no need  to leave the country?

If you can get the extension you can change to an extension based upon retirement.

If not rather than go out for a tourist visa you could get a single entry non-o visa based upon being 50 or over. That way you could skip the conversion.

You have an Ed-visa and could try to apply for an extension of stay based on retirement. But you state you haven't seasoned the money to get the extension. The money must have seasoned enough when you apply for the extension. That means it is not an option for you, if I read it right.

That means you have two option:

- go abroad and apply for a non-O visa, giving you time to season the money

- go abroad and apply for a tourist visa and than get a conversion in Thailand. Than the money does not have to be seasoned yet.

The Ed-visa is a non-immigrant visa and you do not convert between non-immigrant visas. You simply change the reason of stay.

I'll be in a similar situation in a couple of months, getting my last extension on ED visa, I've decided to stay here ... I assume then that if I just put something like "retirement in Thailand" instead of "studying thai" for the reason on the extension application and have the money in bank/income documents I would get a 12 month extension ? or is there more paperwork ? I definitely qualify as far as age goes !

(if it is that simple, how on earth do the visa companies justify charging so much ? )

That is about all you need to do.

You though may need a letter from the school stating that you are no longer attending classes on the date or shortly after you apply for the extension so that they can cancel your current extension.

You will need a letter from your bank and an updated bankbook both of which need to be very recent to your application day. Watch your dates!

I just notice that on my Visa in passport it say under category: ED, But if I understand correct that is not importent? Should it not say O? As I will change the next extension to be based on retirment so worry that is a issue?

All you need is a non immigrant visa entry to get the extension. A lot of people have changed an extension for attending school to retirement.
