Hire boat rip off

Featured Replies

Wife had to hire a speed boat for yesterday to take some of her companies clients out to the ship that was being loaded in the gulf. She phoned a hire service and made sure that the boat had a GPS to find the co-ordinates to the ship and was told yes it was all ok. She drove the 3 business people to Don Sak and was asked for the fairly large payment up front before they would leave the pier so she paid them and gave them the co-ordinates for the ship. They left the port and headed out to sea , the skipper never tried to punch in the co-ordinates at all and was simply driving the boat out towards the islands, he ended up pulling into one of the islands to try to find out where he had to go as he had no idea how the use the GPS apart from following the cursor to a pre recorded destinations. After a couple of hours he drove to Koh Samui and told them to get out of the boat and left them there. They had to catch the ferry back to Don Sak and then a taxi to get back to where they were picked up, my wife is now fighting with the hire service trying to be reimbursed for the pathetic service they provided, they were not taken where they wanted to go, were thrown out of the boat at the islands and not back at the pick up point, costs for the ferry and the taxi, really sums up how some thais businesses operate I think. I know its just another bitch but when you get such bad service and are ripped off what else can you do......

Yes a lot of Thai service ( joke) needs a good kick up the RS.

Ordered some roadstone off a company we have bought off before, literally maybe 200 tons in the last year, so ordered two lorry loads maybe 20-30 tons? 10 wheel lorry etc.

The price also includes spreading the stuff with a tractor.

So they drop their 2 loads and we wait for the tractor, Wife calls him, says be there at 5pm

5pm no sign Wife calls again, cant come tonight will come tomorrow before noon

Next day Noon no tractor, Wife calls him, tractor broken will come this afternoon.

End of after noon Wife calls him...tomorrow

Tomorrow no sign then appears at 2 pm

Heres the problem NOTE they NEVER EVER call you you always have to chase them.

So we will find a new supplier but I dont hold out much hope theyll be better as it seems to be the norm round here.

Always get suspicious when its money up front !

You dont pay any other type "taxi" upfront, why should this one be any different.

Pay on completion not before, as with most things.

thats what I told my wife, the boat they used last time was paid after the drop off, this one demaded the money or he was leaving so it put her in a spot. Unfortunately I didnt go this time or I would have sorted it out plus I know how to key in co-ordinates. I really get the feeling that the skipper was just after some quick money and had no intention of ever going where they wanted, it was well over US$1,000 too so it wasnt a cheap excercise.

Big loss of face for your wife. I'm sorry to hear this happened.

She should have vetted her skippers more carefully than making only a simple phone call. I've also been asked to source suppliers/providers for companies I've worked for and had them fail to deliver. There was no way out for me other than to lose face.

As you say it would have been better had you been there to key in the coordinates.

At a distance, a speedboat is only a big jetski...............................sad.png

And we all know how that story could end.

So far is big loss of 1000 dollars and maybe of her clients also

Come on, from the begining that was just a scam.

Either the skipper know how to use the gps, either it was just a SCAM!

Did you expect the skipper to found the other ship with a binocular, or follow Flipper the dolphin ? Dont you know the ocean is huge...
