PHNOM PENH, July 18 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia on Friday afternoon issued a statement to reject a news report that the country had given approval to China's Taiwan to open a trade center in its territory.

According to the statement posted on its website, the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said the news was "fabricated."

"The spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation would like to stress that the Royal Government of Cambodia has not allowed and will not allow any Taiwan representative office in Cambodia since the Royal Government of Cambodia has fully recognized the one-China policy," the statement said.

The rejection came after the Taipei Times newspaper online reported Thursday that Cambodia had given the green light to Taiwan to open a trade center in Phnom Penh next month.

On Friday morning, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen said Cambodia cannot allow Taiwan to open any representative office in the country at any cost because Taiwan is only a province of China.
