Leaving Thailand to get a TV in KL after 3 years on retirement visa

Featured Replies

Can anyone answer my question? Is it possible to leave Thailand after living here on a non-imm O retirement visa for 3 years and before that on a non-imm O visa for 2 years, go to KL and then return one week later on a TV or visa exempt for 30 days. Do you think I will have problems at immigration? Appreciate your advice.

It depends on the purpose of your trip to Thailand and the length of your planned stay.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

KL is not a great place for tourist visa. Laos is better and issues double entry.

I have removed some off topic posts that were an attempt to bring the current tightening of the rules for exempt entries into the discussion.

To the OP:: There is nothing to stop you from applying for tourist visa or using a visa exempt entry for entry. KL though may not be the best place to apply for your tourist visa. You do not fit under the tightening of the rules.

OP - are you planning to up-sticks and move permanently from Thailand to Malaysia? Or are you intending to return to live in Thailand (initially on a 30-day visa exemption) after your week's trip to Malaysia?

If the latter and your existing extension of stay has not yet expired (but will within the next 30 days), why don't you simply apply for a further year's extension (plus re-entry permit) at your local immigration office now? This would probably be far more straightforward than applying to convert your 30-day exemption into a fresh non-O visa upon your return from Malaysia (which will almost certainly necessitate a trip to Bangkok unless you live within the catchment area of a major immigration office such as Jomtien) - followed, in due course, by a further year's extension of stay.
