Australian tourist found dead in Phuket hotel room

PHUKET: -- An Australian tourist was found dead in his hotel room in Chalong yesterday afternoon, apparently the victim of a health problem.

Staff at the Happy Cottages Phuket on Soi Ta-ied found Adam Arthur Sahyoun, 31, dead, lying face-own on the floor at about 4:45pm, and called police.

Mr Sahyoun arrived in Phuket on July 5 and was due to fly home on August 5. He was estimated to weigh about 200 kilos, and medication and syringes found in the room indicated he was suffering from hyperinsulinemia, a condition closely linked with obesity with can lead to cardiovascular disease.

Investigators believe that he had been dead for about eight hours when he was found.

Poor bloke, hopefully the press will let him have some dignity by not posting photos of his corpse.

Insensitive post & justified reply quoting it removed.

To die at 31 is a very sad thing indeed. Thoughts to his family; it could have been any of us if life had been a little different.

No it couldn't. Most people would never allow themselves to get that big.

I think it's fair to respectfully suggest that no one actually chooses to "get that big" More often than not it is down to genetics, illness or some other condition/affliction.

Commiserations and condolences to his family and friends, to have a weight problem like that could well be devastating with a normal life probably out of the question. Not a good way to go and very regrettable, hopefully the subsequent comments and posts that we will no doubt see here are made with some care and consideration for the relatives that may well see them.

Very sad reading...

I guess we'll all go one day!

At least he died in a place he enjoyed.

RIP

Obesity is a serious problem in western countries...especially the younger generations...does not bode well for their future...health problems galore to look forward to...sad state of affairs...

Sad life story, come on vacation to die// RIP

No, there is only a small percentage that occurs through illness the rest is eating too much and no sports.

Still is very sad to go at that age.

I hope he had a blast during his 14 days there.

I hope when I go I am face "up" with a large smile though.

RIP big fella!

Why is it sad? Because every day thousands of people starve around the world because they do not have enough food to eat?

People make a choice to put stuff in their mouths and that is why 90% of overweight peple are overweight.

200kgs? Is that a typo?

One can only imagine how hard his life would have been, struggling with such weight.

I am surprised the Australian medical system did not give him some form of corrective surgery, such as a laparoscopic adjustable stomach band. He could have also gone to a hospital in Bangkok and paid for the surgery - no waiting list etc.

Anyway, the big guy is at peace now.

snarkles

Some medical problems make weight gain inevitable.

The fact is that this poor bugger is dead. Nobody here has any right to pull the piss out of a dead bloke who never asked for his details to be revelled on TV.

No one here knows why he was 200 kg and nobody knows the cause of death so pull your heads in and give the bloke some respect.

Crawl back under your rocks and come out when you wake up to yourself for bagging a dead man.

Get a grip and step down from your pulpit for a moment.

Once you are dead you cannot control what other people say. Good luck tryin when you alive.
