TAT Insurance, Dont hold your breath

Featured Replies

Having seen the publicity that TAT would provide an alternative for travellers who could not get insurance due to the current position in Thailand.

I e mailed TAT in London, as it says this can be purchased from TAT offices abroad.

This is the reply

" Having recognised the difficulties for insurance brokers to issue sufficient travel insurance while the country is under martial law, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has partnered with three insurance brokers to introduce travelinsurance for any inbound travel. The insurance policies have been introduced to increase the confidence of travellers that want to visit Thailand says TAT.

The three companies offering immediate coverage are Muang Thai Insurance, Chao Phaya Insurance and Siam City Insurance. Premiums start from 650 Baht and the highest sum insured is 1,000,000 Baht with full coverage including accidents, trip cancellation, loss or damage of baggage or personal belongings, accommodation fees in case of an airport being closed, and 24-hour emergency assistance by Allianz Global Assistance.

An online portal to purchase these insurance policies will be launched on 15 July 2014. Once insurance has been paid for, coverage is immediate and a copy of the policy will be emailed to the traveller.

However, our office has not yet been provided with a link to where the policies can be bought but I will be sure to get back in touch with you as soon as we have more information and a link.

Sorry I can't be of more help. If you require any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us again.

Note TAT says its online portal will be launched on the 15th July, today is the 22nd
