Research on current visa situation - have you been left stranded?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm currently trying to connect with people who have fallen victim to the worsening crackdown on tourist visas in Thailand. This is part of research for an article on the current situation - if you're happy to share your story please get in touch through the private message system on Thaivisa and I would be very happy to hear from you...

Who are you and article to be published where?

Sent from my iPad using Thaivisa Connect Thailand

20 mins new and an OP ... thumbsup.gif

Why do you refer to them as " Victims " ?

Surely they are only " Victims " of their own stupidity.

A victim is simply someone who had something bad happen to them.

By their own hand?????

Yes, I get it now.

Break the law and you are a " Victim "

It's bloody obvious that a victim can be so because of their own actions. What's the fuss about?

In the situation you are referring to I find that hard to believe. Those who abused the system are not victims they are the reason behind the crackdown.

But I guess that wont make news and good reading for your article!!

That old chestnut. The definition of victim makes no allowances for whether the person was responsible for their bad situation or not, hence the term "innocent victim" or otherwise. Therefore calling them "victims" is perfectly valid.

You're trying to make the point that visa-runners are to blame for their own demise, we get it...

Exactly.

Some people are incapable of taking responsibility for their own actions.

The Forum is full of such stories...research it my friend, theres a very large section of fors and against, and many have shared their individual stories there, then maybe you can decide who is the victim.

I dont blame anyone for anything they do, each to their own, but its no good crying victim when the authorities then start to tighten up on the rules, as previously said its time people started taking responsibility for their actions and the position they now face but many prefer to blame the system!!

Thanks for the advice

What magazine or online site is the article for?

The OP is asking about something that does not exist. Their is no "crackdown" on tourist visas.

There is tightening of the rules for doing visa runs for out/in visa exempt entries.

Exactly, that leads me to believe this will be the usual BS article with many factual errors, leading to wrong conclusions and perceptions.

Immigration appears to be enforcing its own rules to the letter and has also issued new rules which come into effect on August 29. The focus of this change is people who live in Thailand on 30-day visa-exemption stamps and tourist visas. There is therefore a crackdown on people who use tourist visas to live in Thailand...

Jesus. So let me get this straight: You're complaining about something that hasn't even happened yet - the article - and you're accusing it of being factually incorrect? Don't you have something better to do than whinge about something that doesn't even exist yet?

The only official announcements from immigration has been for visa exempt entries. There has been none concerning tourist visas, The only change on August 29 to do with visa exemptions is the 30 day extension. There is nothing for tourist visas.

Right, and immigration - particularly on the Malaysian border - has been denying some people access who have tourist visas in cases where they believe these people are trying to stay in the country...

By stay I obviously mean live...

I said 'leads me to believe this will be ...', future tense. So no complaint, just a believe, an expectation.
