I am on a 30 day tourist visa, i arrived last July 8 and my visa expires on August 6...how can i extend it to Aug 15?

Can i still take a visa run to Savanakhet and apply for a 60 days tourist visa? Due to recent news regarding strict implementation on visa runs should i have anything to worry about?

i heard that on August 12 visa runs will be banned, is this true? Please clarify

Thank you very much!

I think you are not on a tourist visa. I think you are on a visa exempt entry. They are not the same.

You cannot extend till August 15, so you will need to leave the country.

Presuming you now have a visa exempt entry, you can leave Thailand enter a neighbouring country and come back to Thailand straight away for an extra 15 or 30 days (depending on your nationality).

You will have no problem, especially if you can show a ticket to your homecountry for the 15th.

If he is though on a 30 day tourist visa can he not go to Immigration and get a 7 day extension?

This won't get him to the 15th as he wants but close to it, being the 13th.

To get to the 15th will he not need to exit and apply for another 30 day single entry visa?

He is here on a visa-exempt (i.e. no visa) entry. That means he does not have a tourist visa or a visa of any kind, despite what he called it in the O/P.

If he can, exiting and re-entering Thailand will probably get him another 30 day visa-exempt entry, although that would be an in-and-out border run which has been increasingly problematic ... but if he has a return air ticket and if these two visa exempt entries are the only ones that he's made recently, he should be OK .

The problem is i still have to rebook my plane ticket to August 15 and I already travelled to Thailand earlier this year and stayed for 2 months: 1 month on visa-exempt entry and 1 month on tourist visa ( i applied at Savanakhet for a 60 day tourist visa).

The immigration officers will most likely to check my passport so I'm having doubts if i can still extend my stay up to Aug 15.

Should i apply again for a 60 day tourist visa (Savanakhet)? or just take the risk for another 30 day visa-excempt entry?

I am confused about what you now actually have.

a tourist visa from the consulate in savanakhet or a visa exempt entry. A tourist visa can be extended for 30 days without any problems.

They will only be looking at your most recent entries. Since you only have one recent visa exempt entry you will not yet fit into the profile of a out/in visa runner. It will help if you have your ticket out for the 15th. If you could leave a couple of days early applying for a 7 day extension would give you a enough time.

Hi to all,

My situation might be vaguely similar so I am asking in this thread.

I am a US citizen and I entered the country on May 28, 2014 without getting a visa anywhere prior to coming.

Is this called a "visa-exempt" entry?

I have just gotten my second extension a few days ago making the run from Chiang Rai. The stamp is good until August 22. So I need to leave the country by then as far as I understand.

I want to get an Education visa but in reading on the Thai government site it says that my passport has to be valid for 18 months to get a one year visa. My passport only goes through to Sept. 1 2015.

SO, if I were to fly out of the country (perhaps to Malaysia) would I be able to apply for a double tourist visa and then come back in and line everything up for a proper ED visa, which would include me renewing my passport?

All advice appreciated!

Regards,

Charlie

You got a 30 day visa exempt entry and have gotten 2 more by doing a border crossing. You did not get extensions you got new entries.

Since you will only be getting a single entry non-ed visa you only need 6 months passport validity.

You will be getting an extension of stay after that at immigration and you only need a passport with validity equal to or greater than the extension. If not they will shorten the extension to the length of your passport validity.

If you don't have your paper work for the ED visa prior to August 22 you will need to go out for a tourist visa. A single entry should be enough. You can only get two entry visas in Laos. You can only get single entry visas in Malaysia.
