Rotten rice should be turned into ethanol



BANGKOK: -- The estimated 100,000 tonnes of rotten rice in storage should be sold to the PTT Plc and then turned into ethanol.

The above was an idea floated by Mr Rangsan Srivorasart, finance permanent secretary and a board member of PTT Plc. He said that the rotten rice, estimated at 100,000 tonnes stored in warehouses could be sold to the PTT Plc to be turned into ethanol.

Mr Rangsan disclosed that PTT had no objection to the idea because it has the facility to produce ethanol. However, he said that it would all depend on the price of the rotten rice which was to be charged on the PTT.

Mr Rangsan further said the sale of the rotten rice would help the state spared the storage expenses.

In order to sell the rotten rice, he said that consultation with the Rice Policy Committee, the Commerce and Agriculture ministries is required.

I have been saying this for months on this forum.  The price it goes to PTT for is irrelevant.  The stuff has no value & would go to a landfill for the same transport costs to get it to PTT's ethanol facility.  It gets embarrasing poor grade rice out of the inventory system.  This removes one depressing factor from the price of thai rice on the world market by reducing the amount of stock listed as "available for sale."  It also helps to give potential buyers confidence that poor grade rice is disposed of & not in the for-sale inventory. At the moment some markets would be closed to Thai rice on the fear that any potential purchase might contain some of it "by accident."   It is a win-win-no-brainer.

I think the PTT idea of a deal is paying the transport costs to their facilities no more.

Sell the rotten rice to PTT for a reasonable market value, and use the proceeds of cash from the sale to reduce the price of the rice for the masses that are starving in Thailand. 

Shame on Thailand for allowing your own people to starve, when the price of good quality rice is way above the affordability of so many.

After all, there are an estimated 18 Million tons of this stuff stockpiled, surely a couple of million tons for the people at a subsidised rate would not seem so much money to loose from the coffers, and things like this would surely bring back the " happiness and wellbeing " to the people.

A Democrat whistleblower on the great Thai rice crisis fraud/corruption/contamination (strike out whichever strikes your fancy) is disturbed to find that most of the rice stocks are in good shape.

There are more intelligent and lucrative options to turn rotten rice into something more valuable then Ethanol.
We are currently proposing these options to the relevant authorities.

If due diligence was being followed in this scam. the rotten, discolored, weevil eaten, missing, etc rice would be paid for, at the grossely inflated price by those tasked with its milling, transport, storage, fumigation as well as those responsible for its theft.

 

The ''good old boy'' network/system just keeps wanting to get involved in something that they should be setting on the sidelines. watching and it would seem, paying for their share of the plundered spoils now that they have been caught out.

 

 

Besides, the estimate is 5% to 10% of the stockpile of 18 Mln. MT'S is unfit for human consumption. That's a lot more then the 100,000 MT'S mentioned here.

The other question is why the government needs to own Rice? The whole System is wrong, completely wrong!
If Ricefarmers Need to get Support by the government because the benefit of work doent fit the living costs
there are other ways to solve that Problem.
Store hundreds of thousands of tons of Rice, a foodstuff what has an expiration date and easy can rotten
is the wrong way to go! Even if there is no thieves, no corruption, all stocks as they should be - it costs
a hell lot of Money for store, maintenance and care ...
Not only the rotten Rice should be used immediately for produce animal Food or Ethanol or what ever...
The Rice near to get over date also can be given for human aid programs, processed for Rice flour and others..
Last but not least educate and help the farmers to Change away from riceproduction to something else, shure
that needs Support - but in the end will give a benefit to all.

"Most" really .. if you include the stolen and the rotten what percentage is there ... oh I remember .. we don't know yet as the inspection isn't over!

After making ethanol, the residue can then be used as animal feed.

Anyway there is enough food on this planet, the problem is that the poor one, don't have the money to buy it.

turned into ethanol means most probably to add it to beer. Thai beer anyway tastes a bit rotten.

What are you talking about?  Distilling would remove those items, and even if somehow the end product contained those chemicals, your car would still run fine.

I would imagine PTT's opening offer will be 'how much will you give us to take it away?'

I understand your curiosity but it's a bit premature to disclose these options in a public forum, but when the time is right and the project is well on its way I guess the media will discover and dissiminate the good news anyway
