Going to Laos

Featured Replies

Hi,

I badly need your expertise about thai visa. here's my situation:

my mother from the philippines arrived in bangkok last march 25, 2014. she was given a 30 days stamp upon arrival.

after 30 days, we went to Chaeng Wattana for extension of her tourist visa. we paid 1900 baht and her visa was extended for 7 days.

after 7 days, she went to Laos (visa run) via land, to apply for 4 month visa extension (double entry). the 4 month visa will end on August 25.

My questions are:

1.) Can she go to Laos again for a visa run?

2.) Can she apply for 4 months (double entry) visa extension again? or 2 months (single entry)?

I am worried because there are reports, that some foreigners who also went to Laos for a visa run, were not able to enter the kingdom of Thailand, despite that they were issued a proper visa. Please clarify on this. Thank you so much.

Another issue. Do you have any idea what would be the requirements for Non-O Visa?

I planned to apply a Non-O or dependent visa for my mother, so that she will not be hassled going in/out in Thailand.

The name of my company is VRice Intl. It's a rice export/commodity company.

Please, please, i need you help. Thank you so much :)

A double entry tourist visa is valid up to six months not four. For each 60 days entry you can extend it for another 30 days, Bt 1,900 at any immigration office. So, if she has not extended the second entry yet, she can do it to stay until Sep 23.

Second, yes she can get another double entry tourist visa in Laos. When the consulate is not willing to issue anymore, they will tell and/or stamp - no more after this one.

I don't think you can get a dependent visa for a parent, only for spouse or children. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

At this time, there is no problem entering with a valid visa except few cases in the south that probably have not repeated again, because there have been are no new reports since then and all appears to be normal.

Thank you so much, Paz! :)

If your mother is over 50 she can get an extension of stay as your dependent if you are on an extension of stay. She would first need to get a single entry non-o visa.

If she has not done it yet she can get a 30 day extension for her 60 day tourist visa entry.

I have seen no reports of people being turned back a the Lao border that had a valid visa. That has only happened at the Malaysian border.
