Extending tourist visa with red stamp in passport

Featured Replies

Hi,

my friend is a bit worried about extending the first entry of his double entry tourist visa. He got a red stamp in Vientiane last time ('proof of residency and funds required next time').

The 30 day extension will be no problem in Pattaya immigration, right? He has been staying here continiously on tourist visas for 15 months and has another 2 single entry toursit visad from 2010 and 2011 in his passport.

No problem. Stamp is about Vientane requirements not Jomtien requirements.

These extensions are rather automatic right? So nothing to worry about?

The requirement for income/residence is for the next visa.

However, regarding the extension, some immigration offices may ask for onward tickets, itineraries, 20,000 baht in pocket, hotel bookings, etc.  I do believe that this is not everywhere, and not every time.  Reading through many threads, I would prepare something of this sort just in case. Right now, I am in Chiang Mai, and will be either requesting an extension, or converting to a Non O, based on retirement...in about 6 more weeks.

I will find out personally, but not right away.

What is accepted as proof of residency.

What is accepted as proof of residency.

Just a letter from your hotel or landlord.  Should be original signed.

For a tourist visa, I would think they would want proof of residency in your home country.

The red stamp means they believe you are living in Thailand.

They actually to want proof of residence in Thailand. This has been discussed may times before and I agree that this is odd.

Beside that does not means that, it is irrelevant to to subject.

Normally, no documentation whatsoever is required for tourist visa extensions. Clause 2.4

Lol. They want proof you live in Thailand to get a tourist visa. Very odd.

It is something new.  They just want to see where you are staying, and you have enough money, a ticket out etc.

There are changes now being implemented.  Again, it is not everywhere.   There was a thread last week on this. A receipt from your hotel should do, and some money in your pocket.... You should already have a flight out anyways...that is easy.

That is an extremely old reference (2008).  Some changes in policy are coming into effect.  Read recent threads on this. Some offices may vary their requirements.

That the current regulation until superseded. I guess we'll all be here in few days if the OP would be so kind of reporting.

In the meanwhile, zero reports of "anything" needed for tourist visa extension at Jomtien.

Yes.  Hope to hear feedback how it went.  I will give mine in six weeks.  I do error on the side of caution. In Udon, it was never a problem....but now I am in Chiang Mai, and have a long line to deal with.  Would not hurt to have said items, and those items are easily carried/obtained. They many never ask ....

My friend is going today in the morning so I'll let you guys know once he tells me.

There's probably a few hundred people who have had this red stamp from Vientiane but none of them have been smart enough to ask the Vientiane embassy what the 'proof of residency' bit means.

Maybe the OP's friend can ask at Jomtien Immigration? That is AFTER he gets his extension of course.

That is the most recent immigration bureau order for the documents required for extensions under police order 777/2551.

I have seen no reports of of any immigration offiece wanting anything more than copies of the passport and TM6 departure card.

All went well, aparently the guys were reallly helpful. The computer system was down and they said everyone should come back the next day but my friends visa was on its last day so they made an exception.

By the way, for those going back by motorbike taxi: Don't take the ones out front, they charge 250 to soi Buakhao, instead walk up to the 7-11 on the main road (50 metres or so), these guys and the guys after that only charge 100.

Its no problem i got a red stamp after my 4th tourist visa in loas so for my next visa i went to cambodia no problems what so ever.
