Need to mention work permit when extending visa?

Featured Replies

I will be extending my visa based on marriage with 400k baht in the bank. Do I have to show immigration my work permit and tax payments?

No, I have never been asked.

Although I brought them with me in case.

Have been asked the question, and answered "I don't work", so they asked "how can you live". I said "from money abroad". Nothing more.

Just extended my visa and did not mention my work permit. Officer did not ask about work, income or any work permit.

But the OP, unlike you, works in Thailand, from that his concern.

Not everybody is in the same situation.

there is no need if you have money in the bank, but if using income from within thailand method you will need WP.

Incidentally, there appears an assumption now by immigration if you have a history of long term staying in thailand on tourist visas or visa exempt that you are working in thailand and need to prove you are not. This is heading in the direction that if you are on marriage extension of stay that they will assume you are working in thailand also and in the future may want to see work permits for all applicants on marriage extension

Utter nonsense.

What about those that have income from abroad, Or can show money coming in to maintain to their 400k balance,

My comment is speculative. But it is not too far a step from immigration rejecting tourists "hangin out" in thailand because of suspection of working illegally, to rejecting people married to Thais and staying in thailand without either work permits or solid proof of sources of fund in case you have cash in the bank. This is where things are heading.

Beside that I personally think that your speculations are wrong, what this forum has to gain from these?

Purpose of the forum is to give advice according to current laws, regulation and policies, These have been updated effective just 10 days ago and is not reasonable to expect further changes for a good while.

So far married people is not obliged to work, it ends there.

Your speculation is way off the mark.

A wife's income can also be used to maintain the 400k baht in the bank. Her income cannot be used for the 40k baht income requirement but there is no restriction on a person living on other sources of income as long as they are not working themselves without a work permit.
